چکیده
I svcs = superior vena cava syndrome I ntrathoracic extension of goiters usually causes a benign neck and mediastinal mass with morbid potential. ‘ These goiters can develop slowly and patients may be asymptomatic for many years. They may have some problems about diagnosis and anesthesia during surgery.’2 We present a patient with intrathoracic goiter complicated by hyperthyroidism, tracheal compression, SVCS, and Homer’s syndrome. We believe that this is the first published case with all of these findings.

Coexistence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Superior Vena Cava Syndromes Due to Substernal Goitre in a Patient With Respiratory Failure: A Case Report
INTRODUCTION Substernal goiter may rarely cause superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) owing to venous compression, and cause acute respiratory failure due to tracheal compression. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) may rarely occur when there is a narrowing of upper airway by edema and vascular congestion resulting from SVCS. CASE PRESENTATION We presented the clinical course and treatment ...
متن کاملRetrosternal goiter with posterior mediastinal extension surgery in a patient with superior vena cava obstruction through a classic neck incision; Case report
Intrathoracic goiters are usually located anteriorly, in the superior or anterior mediastinum, and are termed substernal or retrosternal goiters. Posterior mediastinal goiters are rare, about 10% of all intrathoracic goiters. Patients with retrosternal goiter usually have a visible or palpable cervical mass. In addition, tracheal deviation may be present with compression symptoms. Posterior med...
متن کاملSuperior vena caval system obstruction caused by benign endothoracic goiter.
The superior vena caval syndrome caused by a substernal thyroid is a rare occurrence. It can, however, result from external compression of the superior vena cava or innominate veins by an intrathoracic goiter. This report details such a case in which innominate vein occlusion was documented both by conventional venography and by a new technique utilizing a radionuclide (sodium pertechnetate 9#{...
متن کاملSuperior Vena Cava Syndrome due to Thrombosis: A Rare Paraneoplastic Presentation of Bronchogenic Carcinoma
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is not an uncommon occurrence in patients with malignancy and it is often described as a medical emergency. In majority of the cases, SVC syndrome occurs due to mechanical obstruction of the SVC by extraluminal compression with primary intrathoracic malignancies. However, intraluminal obstruction due to thrombosis can also produce symptoms and signs of SVC synd...
