Screening by Conference Designs
نویسنده
چکیده
Screening experiments are addressed to the identiication of the relevant variables within some process or experimental outcome potentially depending on a large number of variables. In this paper we introduce a new class of experimental designs called edge designs. These designs are very useful for screening experiments since they allow a model-independent estimate of the set of relevant variables, thus providing more robustness than traditional designs. We give a bound on the determinant of the information matrix of certain edge designs, and show that a large class of edge designs meeting this bound can be constructed from conference matrices. We also show that the resulting conference designs have an optimal space exploration property which is important as a guard against unexpected nonlinearities. We survey the existence of and constructions for conference matrices, and give, for n < 50 variables, explicit such matrices when n is a prime, and references to explicit constructions otherwise.

New families of QB-optimal saturated two-level main effects screening designs
In this paper, we study saturated two-level main effects designs which are commonly used for screening experiments. The QB criterion, which incorporates experimenters’ prior beliefs about the probability of factors being active is used to compare designs. We show that under priors with more weight on models of small size, p-efficient designs should be recommended; when models with more paramete...

Thegoal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) single-topic conference on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was to highlight areas of research necessary to further our understanding of the pathogenesis and management of this disease. Three major areas in which the necessity of extensive further research was identified include screening for HCC, staging of disease, and m...
متن کاملA Systematic Approach for the Construction of Definitive Screening Designs
Definitive screening (DS) designs, first proposed by Jones and Nachtsheim (2011), have received much attention due to their good design properties and runsize economy. This paper investigates the structure of three-level DS designs and suggests a theoretically-driven approach to constructing DS designs for any number of run size. This construction method is computationally efficient and univers...
متن کاملFactor Screening and Response Surface Exploration
Standard practice in response surface methodology performs factor screening and response surface exploration sequentially, using different designs. A novel approach is proposed to achieve the two objectives on the same experiment, based on one design. Running a uni-stage experiment has the advantages of saving experimentation time and run size. The approach is based on a two-stage analysis that...
متن کاملOn the coexistence of conference matrices and near resolvable 2-(2k+1, k, k-1) designs
We show that a near resolvable 2-(2k + 1, k, k − 1) design exists if and only if a conference matrix of order 2k+2 does. A known result on conference matrices then allows us to conclude that a near resolvable 2-(2k + 1, k, k − 1) design with even k can only exist if 2k + 1 is the sum of two squares. In particular, neither a near resolvable 2-(21, 10, 9) design nor a near resolvable 2-(33, 16, 1...
