Comparing mortality between cancer and non-cancer critically ill patients: a propensity score matched analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Intensive care unit (ICU) admission may be required in cancer patients for management of acute illnessess associated with underlying malignancy or complications of cancer therapy. The higher mortality rates found in this population, in comparison to non-cancer critically ill patients, may be attributable to confounding bias due to a higher incidence of multiple organic dysfunction in those patiens with malignant neoplasms; however data regarding this hypothesis are scarce.

Electrolyte and acid-base disturbances in critically ill patients: a retrospective and propensity-matched study
Background: Electrolyte and acid-base disturbances are common in critically ill patients. Their relationship with hospital mortality has not been clearly clarified. Methods: A retrospective propensity score matched analysis was used to evaluate the effects of electrolyte and acid-base disturbances on hospital mortality in critically ill patients from 2014 to 2015 in our hospital. Multiple logis...
متن کاملCalcium supplementation improves clinical outcome in intensive care unit patients: a propensity score matched analysis of a large clinical database MIMIC-II
UNLABELLED Observational studies have linked hypocalcemia with adverse clinical outcome in critically ill patients. However, calcium supplementation has never been formally investigated for its beneficial effect in critically ill patients. To investigate whether calcium supplementation can improve 28-day survival in adult critically ill patients. Secondary analysis of a large clinical database ...
متن کاملAssessment of candidemia-attributable mortality in critically ill patients using propensity score matching analysis
INTRODUCTION Candidemia in critically ill patients is usually a severe and life-threatening condition with a high crude mortality. Very few studies have focused on the impact of candidemia on ICU patient outcome and attributable mortality still remains controversial. This study was carried out to determine the attributable mortality of ICU-acquired candidemia in critically ill patients using pr...
متن کاملAssociation between admission hypomagnesemia mortality or mortality of critically ill patients in intensive care unit
Background: Up to now there is no study evaluating correlation between serum magnesium and morbidity or mortality in patients admitted in intensive care unit. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in critically ill patients and to evaluate its association with organ dysfunction, hospitalization period and mortality. Methods: We conducted a retrospective trial ...
متن کاملContinuous Infusion of Piperacillin/Tazobactam in Septic Critically Ill Patients—A Multicenter Propensity Matched Analysis
The clinical efficacy of continuous infusion of piperacillin/tazobactam in critically ill patients with microbiologically documented infections is currently unknown. We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study in 7 Portuguese intensive care units (ICU). We included 569 critically ill adult patients with a documented infection and treated with piperacillin/tazobactam admitted to one of...
