On graph equivalences preserved under extensions

Let G be the set of finite graphs whose vertices belong to some fixed countable set, and let ≡ be an equivalence relation on G. By the strengthening of ≡ we mean an equivalence relation ≡s such that G ≡s H , where G,H ∈ G, if for every F ∈ G, G ∪ F ≡ H ∪ F . The most important case that we study in this paper concerns equivalence relations defined by graph properties. We write G ≡ H , where Φ is a graph property and G,H ∈ G, if either both G and H have the property Φ, or both do not have it. We characterize the strengthening of the relations ≡ for several graph properties Φ. For example, if Φ is the property of being a k-connected graph, we find a polynomially verifiable (for k fixed) condition that characterizes the pairs of graphs equivalent with respect to ≡Φs . We obtain similar results when Φ is the property of being k-colorable, edge 2colorable, hamiltonian, or planar, and when Φ is the property of containing a subgraph isomorphic to a fixed graph H . We also prove several general theorems that provide conditions for ≡s to be of some specific form. For example, we find a necessary and sufficient condition for the relation ≡s to be the identity. Finally, we make a few observations on the strengthening in a more general case when G is the set of finite subsets of some countable set.

Equivalence classes of functions between finite groups
Two types of equivalence relation are used to classify functions between finite groups into classes which preserve combinatorial and algebraic properties important for a wide range of applications. However, it is very difficult to tell when functions equivalent under the coarser (“graph”) equivalence are inequivalent under the finer (“bundle”) equivalence. Here we relate graphs to transversals ...
متن کاملConstruction of Stable Equivalences of Morita Type for Finite-dimensional Algebras I
In the representation theory of finite groups, the stable equivalence of Morita type plays an important role. For general finite-dimensional algebras, this notion is still of particular interest. However, except for the class of self-injective algebras, one does not know much on the existence of such equivalences between two finite-dimensional algebras; in fact, even a nontrivial example is not...
متن کاملPropositional Temporal Logics and Equivalences
We compare propositional temporal logics by comparing the equivalences that they induce on models. Linear time, branching time and partial order temporal logics are considered. The logics are interpreted on occurrence transition systems, generated by labelled prime event structures without auto-concurrency. The induced equivalences are also compared to directly deened equivalences, e.g., histor...

TILTING THEORY FOR QUIVERS AND RELATED CATEGORIES MORITZ GROTH AND JAN ŠŤOVÍČEK Abstract. We generalize the construction of reflection functors from classical representation theory of quivers to arbitrary small categories with freely attached sinks or sources. These reflection morphisms are shown to induce equivalences between the corresponding representation theories with values in arbitrary s...
متن کاملPreservation Under Extensions on Well-Behaved Finite Structures
A class of relational structures is said to have the extension preservation property if every first-order sentence that is preserved under extensions on the class is equivalent to an existential sentence. The class of all finite structures does not have the extension preservation property. We study the property on classes of finite structures that are better behaved. We show that the property h...
