چکیده

The π-calculus is a process algebra where agents interact by sending communication links to each other via noiseless communication channels. Taking into account the reality of noisy channels, an extension of the π-calculus, called the πN -calculus, has been introduced recently. In this paper, we present an early transitional semantics of the πN calculus, which is not a directly translated version of the late semantics of πN , and then extend six kinds of behavioral equivalences consisting of reduction bisimilarity, barbed bisimilarity, barbed equivalence, barbed congruence, bisimilarity, and full bisimilarity into the πN -calculus. Such behavioral equivalences are cast in a hierarchy, which is helpful to verify behavioral equivalence of two agents. In particular, we show that due to the noisy nature of channels, the coincidence of bisimilarity and barbed equivalence, as well as the coincidence of full bisimilarity and barbed congruence, in the π-calculus does not hold in πN .

A Hierarchy of Equivalences for Asynchronous Calculi

We generate a natural hierarchy of equivalences for asynchronous name-passing process calculi from simple variations on Milner and Sangiorgi’s definition of weak barbed bisimulation. The π-calculus, used here, and the join calculus are examples of such calculi. We prove that barbed congruence coincides with Honda and Yoshida’s reduction equivalence, and with asynchronous labeled bisimulation wh...

Undecidability of 2-Label BPP Equivalences and Behavioral Type Systems for the π-Calculus

The trace equivalence of BPP was shown to be undecidable by Hirshfeld. We show that the trace equivalence remains undecidable even if the number of labels is restricted to two. The undecidability result holds also for the simulation of two-label BPP processes. These results imply undecidability of some behavioral type systems for the π-calculus.

Decidability of Behavioral Equivalences in Process Calculi with Name Scoping

Local channels and their name scoping rules play a significant role in the study of the expressiveness of process calculi. The paper contributes to the understanding of the expressiveness in the context of CCS by studying the decidability issues of the bisimilarity/similarity checking problems. The strong bisimilarity for a pair of processes in the calculi with only static local channels is sho...

Static vs Dynamic Typing for Access Control in Pi-Calculus

Traditional static typing systems for the pi-calculus are built around capability types that control the read/write access rights on channels and describe the type of their payload. While static typing has proved adequate for reasoning on process behavior in typed contexts, dynamic techniques have often been advocated as more effective for access control in distributed/untyped contexts. We stud...
