چکیده

This report describes a novel method for estimating motion in image sequences. The approach is based on a multiresolution model in which the motion eld is considered to consist of a collage of di erent size regions with di erent local motions associated with them. The local motions are de ned in terms of an a ne model. The estimation procedure consists of a local component in which the a ne motion parameters are estimated using a generalised correlation technique and a global component in which the nal motion eld is determined using a coarse-tone matching scheme. E cient implementation of the scheme is achieved by the use of a generalised wavelet transform, the Multiresolution Fourier Transform (MFT). Results of experiments performed on both arti cial and natural image sequences illustrate the potential of the approach.

A multiresolution frequency domain method for estimating affine motion parameters

A novel approach to motion estimation is presented. The scheme employs a multiresolution model of 2-D motion, in which the motion within local regions at di erent scales is described in terms of a six parameter a ne model. A frequency domain method is used to estimate the local a ne motion parameters and a coarsene tracking algorithm is used to determine the global motion eld. Results of experi...

Pseudoframe multiresolution structure on abelian locally compact groups

‎Let $G$ be a locally compact abelian group‎. ‎The concept of a generalized multiresolution structure (GMS) in $L^2(G)$ is discussed which is a generalization of GMS in $L^2(mathbb{R})$‎. ‎Basically a GMS in $L^2(G)$ consists of an increasing sequence of closed subspaces of $L^2(G)$ and a pseudoframe of translation type at each level‎. ‎Also‎, ‎the construction of affine frames for $L^2(G)$ bas...

Optical Flow Estimation Using Genetic Algorithms

This paper illustrates a new optical flow estimation technique, which builds upon a genetic algorithm (GA). First, the current frame is segmented into generic shape regions, using only brightness information. For each region a two-parameter motion model is estimated using a GA. The fittest individuals identified at the end of this step are used to initialise the population of the second step of...

Motion Estimation using Adaptive Correlation and Local Directional Smoothing

We present two forms of correlation for addressing the problems presented by non-translational and multiple motions in region based motion estimation. The first registered correlation enables affine motion parameters to be estimated; whilst the second iterated partial correlation enables the identification and estimation of two motion components within a region. Incorporation of both techniques...

A Region-based Algorithm for Image Segmentation and Parametric Motion Estimation*

This paper describes an approach for integrating region-based motion estimation and region merging techniques with the purpose of obtaining precise parametric motion description and image segmentation. Segmentation is achieved with a region merging scheme based initially on color homogeneity and extended to include motion parameters in successive steps. Motion vectors are first estimated with a...
