چکیده

To allow for producing high quality tactile graphics, the involvement of blind users in the production process can be a very vital approach. In this paper, we describe a collaborative tactile graphic workstation. Thereby, a sighted user works with a conventional vector graphic production software while a blind user can edit the same graphic on a two-dimensional pin-matrix device at the same time. The software architecture as well as the tactile user interface is described. Furthermore, some conflicts that can occur in a synchronous collaboration task within the system are discussed.

Tactile Graphics Revised: The Novel BrailleDis 9000 Pin-Matrix Device with Multitouch Input

We describe the novel BrailleDis 9000 pin-matrix device. The refreshable device allows to present tactile graphics on a matrix of 60 times 120 pins. The pin-matrix device is made up of a newly developed type of vertical Braille module allowing for a compact assembly of all necessary components. Additionally, the pin-matrix device is touch sensitive and capable of detecting multiple points of co...

Redesigning Input Controls of a Touch-Sensitive Pin-Matrix Device

To support blind people in dealing with graphical user interfaces some two-dimensional Braille devices were developed. In order to ensure an efficient workflow not only the preparation of content, but also the handling of the device has to be well usable. In this paper, the redesign of a touch-sensitive pin-matrix device is discussed. At first, some mock-ups of additional input controls were de...

Tactile displays: Overview and recent advances

Tactation is the sensation perceived by the sense of touch, and is based on the skin’s receptors. Touch is a common medium used by the general population and the sensory impaired. Tactile substitution can be used by the blind or deaf in order to: (a) enhance access to computer graphical user interfaces and (b) enhance mobility in controlled environments. The skin nerves can be stimulated throug...
