چکیده

Modeling free-form shapes in 3D spaces based on strict physical laws require a considerable amount of computation time. Previous experiences with Cellular Automata demonstrated substantial improvements for these ap plications. Here, we describe an efficient approach applying the Cell-DEVS formalism to model the deformation of free-form shape objects in a 3D space. The objects are treated as virtual clay, and the values assigned to each cell in the model represent a certain amount of clay in the cell. The clay object is deformed in accordance with the physical conservation laws.

Visualization in 3ds Max for Cell-DEVS Models Based on Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) increasingly benefits from modeling, simulation and visualization techniques. 3D visualization can provide a better way to obtain visual simulation results in BIM authoring tools. In this paper, we focus on improving interoperability, traceability, reusability and visibility of 3D visualization. We employ the DEVS (Discrete Event Systems Specification) formal...

Tools for DEVS modeling, simulation and 3D visualization

Cell-DEVS is an extension of the DEVS formalism which combines DEVS with Cellular Automata. It is particularly useful for defining spaces by decomposing them into individual cells. The CD++ Toolkit enables one to model and simulate a real or artificial system using either DEVS or Cell-DEVS. Although it is provided with a Modeler tool, this permits only 2D visualization of the simulation. This p...

A CLOSED FORM SOLUTION FOR FREE VIBRATION ANALYSIS OF TUBE-IN-TUBE SYSTEMS IN TALL BUILDINGS

In this paper the dynamic response of tube-in-tube systems for tall building structures is investigated. Inner and outer tubes are modeled using equivalent continuous orthotropic membranes; in which, each tube is individually modeled by a cantilever box beam. By applying the compatibility conditions on deformation of the two tubes, the governing dynamic equations of the tube-in-tube structure a...

Applying Cellular Automata and DEVS Methodologies to Digital Games: A Survey

Cellular automata were designed by John von Neumann in the 1940s, as a mathematical abstraction for modeling self-replicating algorithms. Since then, cellular automata have been widely studied theoretically and evolved into multiple variants. In the 1970s, Bernard P. Zeigler proposed a formalism rooted on systems theory principles, named DEVS (discrete-event systems specifications), which paved...

Applying Cell-DEVS in Models of Complex Systems

Cell-DEVS is an extension to the DEVS formalism that allows the definition of cellular models. CD++ is a modeling and simulation tool that implements DEVS and CellDEVS formalisms . We show the application of the paradigm through different examples developed in CD++. Complex applications can be implemented in a simple fashion, and they can be executed effectively.
