Hematologic Investigations in Normal Heterozygous and
نویسندگان
چکیده
An auto#{225}omal recessive mutant (symbol, dan) in the dog causes chondrodysplastic dwarfism and mild anemia as pleiotropic effects. The anemia is characterized by stomatocytosis, macrocytosis, low MCHC, increased osmotic fragility, shortened red cell survival, reticulocytosis, erythroid hyperplasia, and increased iron turnover. Minor changes can be detected in the red cells of heterozygous carriers of the dan gene, but red cell survival is normal and chondrodysplasia is not present. Red cell sodium concentration and water content are increased in anemic dogs and to a lesser degree in carriers. Glutathione deficiency is present. The disorder described here resembles a number of human hemolytic anemias with stomatocytosis, glutathione deficiency, and disordered red cell cation and water content, and further study of the dan mutant, together with investigations of the hereditary human conditions, will elucidate the maintenance of normal red cell cation balance.

متن کاملCodon 72 Polymorphism of p53 Gene and Hematologic Manifestations in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a systemic autoimmune disorder with unclear etiology. The importance of some genes in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus has been implicated. The gene polymorphism in codon 72 has attracted a lot of attention and its role in the occurrence or progression of many cancers and autoimmune diseases especially systemic lupus erythematosus has ...
متن کاملDetection of New Silent Mutation at 348 bp Position in a CD18 Gene in Holstein Cattle Normal and Heterozygous for Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency Syndrome
In India, Holstein and its crosses are being used extensively in breeding programmes and all these breeding bulls are screened for autosomal recessive genes. Blood samples are collected in ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) coated tubes and DNA was isolated by using phenol-chloroform method. Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) wereperformed by using...
متن کاملalpha-Thalassemia 2, 3.7 kb deletion and hemoglobin AC heterozygosity in pregnancy: a molecular and hematological analysis.
alpha-Thalassemia is a synthesis hemoglobinopathy with a worldwide distribution. alpha-thalassemia-23.7kb (alpha-Thal23.7kb) was investigated by PCR and standard hematologic analysis techniques in 106 pregnant women - 53 heterozygous for hemoglobin (Hb) A and C (AC) and 53 homozygous for the normal Hb A (AA) with similar ages and race ancestry. Eleven (21%) of AC women were alpha-Thal23.7kb het...
متن کاملCarotid transient ischemic attacks and normal investigations: a follow-up study.
Reports on the long-term prognosis of patients with transient ischemic attacks and normal angiograms have revealed variable results, some suggesting a good prognosis while others report an outcome no different from that of patients with transient ischemic attacks and atherosclerotic vascular narrowing. Normal cerebral angiograms do not exclude disease in the heart or hematologic disorders. The ...
