چکیده

We studied screening masses in the equilibrium thermodynamics of SU(2) and SU(3) pure gauge theories on the lattice. At a temperature of 2Tc we found strong evidence for dimensional reduction in the nonperturbative spectrum of screening masses. Mass ratios in the high temperature SU(3) theory are consistent with those in the pure gauge theory in three dimensions. At the first order SU(3) phase transition we report the first measurement of the true scalar screening mass. E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected]

Screening Masses in SU(2) Pure Gauge Theory

We perform a systematic scaling study of screening masses in pure gauge SU(2) theory at temperatures above the phase transition temperature. The major finite volume effect is seen to be spatial deconfinement. We extract the screening masses in the infinite volume and zero lattice spacing limit. We find that these physical results can be deduced from runs on rather coarse lattices. Dimensional r...

Obstructions to dimensional reduction in hot QCD

I describe results on screening masses in hot gauge theories. Wilsonian effective long distance theories called dimensionally reduced (DR) theories describe very well the longest screening length in pure gauge theories. In the presence of fermions, meson-like screening lengths dominate the long-distance physics for 3Tc/2 ≤ T < 3Tc, and thus obstruct perturbative DR. Extrapolation of our results...

We compute the mass spectrum of the SU(2) adjoint Higgs model in 2 + 1 dimensions at several points located in the (metastable) confinement region of its phase diagram. We find a dense spectrum consisting of an almost unaltered repetition of the glueball spectrum of the pure gauge theory, and additional bound states of adjoint scalars. For the parameters chosen, the model represents the effecti...

Eliminating Infrared Divergences in the Pressure

The pressure of a system in thermal equilibrium is expressed as a mass integral over a sum of thermal propagators. This allows a Dyson resummation and is used to demonstrate that potential infrared divergences are rendered harmless. The perturbative treatment of finite-temperature quantum field theories involving massless bosonic fields always faces infrared divergences starting at a certain lo...

Glueball-like Screening Masses in Pure Su(3) at Finite Temperatures

We investigate the finite-temperature excitation spectrum in the gluon sector of SU(3) pure gauge theory through measurements of screening masses in correlations of loop operators. We develop the classification of such operators under the symmetry group of the ‘z-slice’. In the confined phase of the theory, we find that the spectrum dynamically realises the zero temperature symmetries. We obser...
