A Developable Surface of Uniformly Negative Internal Angle Deficit

چکیده
The author addresses the Edge Unfolding Problem, the task of determining whether a given polyhedral mesh may be cut at its edges and developed into a planar polyhedral net. It is shown that simplyconnected surfaces of negative interior curvature cannot be developed. An example is then given of a surface of negative interior curvature with two boundary loops, isomorphic to a cylinder, which is developable.

Structure and characterization of ruled surfaces in Euclidean 3-space
Keywords: Ruled surface Structure function Pitch function Angle function of pitch Weingarten surface Binormal ruled surface a b s t r a c t In this paper, using the elementary method we study ruled surfaces, the simplest foliated submanifolds, in Euclidean 3-space. We define structure functions of the ruled surfaces, the invariants of non-developable ruled surfaces and discuss geometric propert...
متن کاملConstant angle surfaces in Minkowski space
A constant angle surface in Minkowski space is a spacelike surface whose unit normal vector field makes a constant hyperbolic angle with a fixed timelike vector. In this work we study and classify these surfaces. In particular, we show that they are flat. Next we prove that a tangent developable surface (resp. cylinder, cone) is a constant angle surface if and only if the generating curve is a ...
متن کاملDetermination and (re)parametrization of rational developable surfaces
The developable surface is an important surface in computer aided design, geometric modeling and industrial manufactory. It is often given in the standard parametric form, but it can also be in the implicit form which is commonly used in algebraic geometry. Not all algebraic developable surfaces have rational parametrizations. In this paper, we focus on the rational developable surfaces. For a ...
متن کاملCompensation of Gaussian curvature in developable cones is local.
We use the angular deficit scheme [V. Borrelli, F. Cazals, and J.-M. Morvan, Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 20, 319 (2003)] to determine the distribution of Gaussian curvature in developable cones (d-cones) [E. Cerda, S. Chaieb, F. Melo, and L. Mahadevan, Nature (London) 401, 46 (1999)] numerically. These d-cones are formed by pushing a thin elastic sheet into a circular container. Negative Gaussian ...
متن کاملAn Approach for Designing a Developable Surface with a Common Geodesic Curve
This paper presents an approach for designing a developable surface possessing a given curve as the geodesic of it. We analyze the necessary and sufficient conditions when the resulting developable surface is a cylinder, cone or tangent surface. Also, we solve the problem of requiring the surfaces of revolution which are developable surfaces. Finally, we illustrate the convenience and efficienc...
