Consistency in ordinal data analysis

چکیده
In general, objective functions are applied in data analysis in order to compute optimal reductions of an observed set of data. In the social sciences data often have a non-euclidean (non-metric) structure. Therefore, independently of any particular field of data analysis as, for instance, cluster analysis, factor analysis, linear regression, multidimensional scaling objective functions will be characterized that are based upon non-euclidean data. These characterizations will be applied in utility theory and cluster analysis. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

On the Consistency of Ordinal Regression Methods
Many of the ordinal regression algorithms that have been proposed can be viewed as methods that minimize a convex surrogate of the zeroone, absolute, or squared errors. We provide a theoretical analysis of the risk consistency properties of a rich family of surrogate loss functions, including proportional odds and support vector ordinal regression. For all the surrogates considered, we either p...
متن کاملThe art of ordinal analysis
Ordinal analysis of theories is a core area of proof theory whose origins can be traced back to Hilbert’s programme – the aim of which was to lay to rest all worries about the foundations of mathematics once and for all by securing mathematics via an absolute proof of consistency. Ordinal-theoretic proof theory came into existence in 1936, springing forth from Gentzen’s head in the course of hi...
متن کاملOptimization of the ordinal and cardinal consistency of a preference matrix in decision making
In multi-criteria decision problems the relative importance of alternatives is computed from preference matrices, which come from experience and can possibly be inconsistent. Two consistency types of preferences are studied in the paper. The ordinal consistency preserves the order in which the alternatives are arranged, and it does not allow cycles. The term ‘cyclic consistency’ is also used fo...
متن کاملIterated Local Reeection Vs Iterated Consistency
For \natural enough" systems of ordinal notation we show that times iterated local reeection schema over a suuciently strong arithmetic T proves the same 0 1-sentences as ! times iterated consistency. A corollary is that the two hierarchies catch up modulo relative interpretability exactly at-numbers. We also derive the following more general \mixed" formulas estimating the consistency strength...
متن کاملRanking DMUs by ideal points in the presence of fuzzy and ordinal data
Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a very eective method to evaluate the relative eciency of decision-making units (DMUs). DEA models divided all DMUs in two categories: ecient and inecientDMUs, and don't able to discriminant between ecient DMUs. On the other hand, the observedvalues of the input and output data in real-life problems are sometimes imprecise or vague, suchas interval data, ordinal da...
