چکیده

Summarx. I present here a method that allows one to construct a CF grammar of a natural language that correctly accounts for verbal selection rules. This goes contrary to the prevailing opinion, following Chomsky 5, that such a construction is impossible. My method consists essentially in separating the semantic function of a selection rule, namely, the exclusion of certain noun sub-classes, from the syntactic relation between the elements (verb, subject, object:) linked by this relation of selection. When the verb and object (subject) are separated by intervening levels of complement construction, the selection can still be satisfied by a double classification of verbs: according to the kind of subject they take, and also according to the type of verb that can follow them (in the complement construction). Conjunctions and sentences with respectively can also be treated within the framework of the CF approximation proposed here. like the latter, is recursively extendable to §O. Introduction sentences of theoretically unbounded length.

French parsing enhanced with a word clustering method based on a syntactic lexicon

This article evaluates the integration of data extracted from a French syntactic lexicon, the Lexicon-Grammar (Gross, 1994), into a probabilistic parser. We show that by applying clustering methods on verbs of the French Treebank (Abeillé et al., 2003), we obtain accurate performances on French with a parser based on a Probabilistic Context-Free Grammar (Petrov et al., 2006).

Studying impressive parameters on the performance of Persian probabilistic context free grammar parser

In linguistics, a tree bank is a parsed text corpus that annotates syntactic or semantic sentence structure. The exploitation of tree bank data has been important ever since the first large-scale tree bank, The Penn Treebank, was published. However, although originating in computational linguistics, the value of tree bank is becoming more widely appreciated in linguistics research as a whole. F...

Dependency Parsing Resources for French: Converting Acquired Lexical Functional Grammar F-Structure Annotations and Parsing F-Structures Directly

Recent years have seen considerable success in the generation of automatically obtained wide-coverage deep grammars for natural language processing, given reliable and large CFG-like treebanks. For research within Lexical Functional Grammar framework, these deep grammars are typically based on an extended PCFG parsing scheme from which dependencies are extracted. However, increasing success in ...

A discriminative parser of the LR family for phrase structure parsing (Un analyseur discriminant de la famille LR pour l'analyse en constituants) [in French]

We provide a new weighted parsing algorithm for deterministic context free grammar parsing inspired by LR (Knuth, 1965). The parser is weighted by a discriminative model that allows determinism (Collins, 2002). We show that the discriminative model allows to take advantage of morphological information available in the data, hence allowing to achieve state of the art results both in time and in ...

Efficiency of Pregroups and the French Noun Phrase

We study mathematical and algorithmic properties of Lambek’s pregroups and illustrate them by the French noun phrase. An algorithm of complexity 3 n to solve the reduction problem in an arbitrary free pregroup as well as recognition by a pregroup grammar is presented. This algorithm is then specified to run in linear time. A sufficient condition for a language fragment that makes the linear alg...
