Johnstone, J. A., Ross, C. A. C., and Dunn, M. (1972). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 47, 647. Meningitis and encephalitis associated with mumps infection: a 10-year survey. During the 10-year period 1960-69, 137 patients in Ruchill Hospital were diagnosed by clinical and laboratory findings as mumps meningitis. Parotitis was detected in only 51 (37%). There was a male preponderance, 97: 40. 960% of the males were under 10 years old compared with 78% of the females. The peak incidence of patients with meningitis alone was in June-July, parotitis with meningitis was from November to January. All 137 meningitis patients made a good recovery. Of the 2 definite cases of mumps encephalitis 1 showed severe psychomotor sequelae. More of the total 139 patients showed rising titres to mumps 'V' envelope antigen than to mumps 'S' nucleoprotein antigen.

The most important issue is to identify the cause of fever and rule out bacterial meningitis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of aseptic meningitis due to Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine in admitted children with febrile convulsion. ...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Imaging Findings of Mumps Meningoencephalitis with Bilateral Hippocampal Lesions without Preceding Acute Parotitis: A Case Report
Meningitis is a common central nervous system (CNS) complication of the mumps, a viral infection, but encephalitis and meningoencephalitis are less common in mumps. We describe magnetic resonance imaging findings of acute mumps meningoencephalitis in a 32-year-old male who showed bilateral hippocampal lesions without preceding parotitis. Although it is rare, hippocampal involvement should be co...
