Poroelastic Finite Element Analysis of Unstable Motion of an Incongruously Reduced Intra-articular Fracture

چکیده
One of the goals of intraarticular fracture repair is the prevention of post-traumatic arthritis by avoiding mechanical environments that increase the stresses in cartilage. A previous cadaver study has shown that contact pressures in the ankle increase significantly under quasiphysiological loading in the presence of an articular incongruity (step-off) (McKinley, 2006). Of particular interest from that study are results in which the talus subluxated from the beneath the tibia in an unstable motion. This study investigates the biphasic response of cartilage to such transient loading. Contact stress transients from the cadaver study are applied to a poroelastic finite element model to investigate the influence of an unstable motion on the stress distribution throughout the cartilage depth.

Dynamic Fracture Analysis Using an Uncoupled Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Finite Element Formulation
This paper deals with the implementation of an efficient Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the three dimensional finite element modeling of mode I self-similar dynamic fracture process. Contrary to the remeshing technique, the presented algorithm can continuously advance the crack with the one mesh topology. The uncoupled approach is employed to treat the equations. So, each t...
متن کاملCorrective Osteotomy for Intra-Articular Distal Humerus Malunion
Background: An intra-articular distal humerus malunion can be disabling. To improve function, reduce pain and/ or prevent further secondary osteoarthritis an intra-articular corrective osteotomy can be considered. Herein we present the indications, practical guidelines for pre- operative planning and surgical technique. Subsequently, we provide long-term results in a small series. Meth...

Background and Aim: Intra-articular fractures of distal humerus in adults present a controversial challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Minor irregularities of the joint surface of the elbow usually cause some loss of function. This can usually be minimized by early, accurate open reduction with sufficiently rigid fixation to permit immediate motion. The posterior approach combined with Olecra...
متن کاملA biomechanical comparison of fragment-specific fixation and augmented external fixation for intra-articular distal radius fractures.
The biomechanical stability of an internal fixation system that uses low-profile modular implants to stabilize individual fracture components was studied in a validated cadaver fracture model that incorporated physiologic muscle forces and wrist motion. Fragment-specific fixation with immediate range of motion was compared with static augmented external fixation in simulated, unstable 3- and 4-...
متن کاملIntra-articular corrective osteotomy for malunited Hoffa fracture: A case report
Hoffa fracture, an isolated coronal plane fracture of the posterior aspect of the femoral condyle, is known as an unstable, intra-articular fracture, and therefore, operative treatment is recommended. However, insufficient open reduction or failure of fixation may lead to malunion. We performed intra-articular corrective osteotomy for a malunited Hoffa fracture in a 31-year-old man and obtained...
