چکیده

The production of antibodies by homotransplants of living tissue or cells confers a type of immunity termed "adoptive" by Billingham et al. (~), to distinguish it from either an active or a passive immune response. Substantiation of the concept of this form of adoptive immunization is found in a recent review of the literature by Mitchison (6). Unless protected from destruction, however, such homotransplants are inevitably rejected, and the adoptive immunity they bestow is limited. The Millipore filter chamber developed by Algire (1) permits the survival of grafted tissue in a foreign host for prolonged periods of time. In the present report experiments were devised to utilize the Algire chamber to confer adoptive immunity to mice against subsequent inoculations of a lethal tumor. This was accomplished by enclosing within the chamber fragments of rat lymph nodes previously sensitized to the original mouse malignancy. The results indicate that in certain cases this has inhibited the growth of the tumor, and in others it has extended the life of some of the inoculated animals.

Modification of the Immune Response of Mice to Skin Homografts and Heterografts by Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma.

The immunological response of mice given implants of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma was modified as evidenced by the failure of ascitic mice to reject primary or secondary skin homografts or rat skin heterografts. The site of tumor implantation influenced its effect on the host, since subcutaneously implanted Ehrlich ascites carcinoma did not alter the immune response. The presence of the tumor in t...

In vitro studies on tumor-specific immunity by using C3H mammary cancer-A cells. II. Specificity in growth-inhibition effect of lymph-node cells from sensitized animal on target cells.

For purpose to study specificity in the growth inhibition effect of sensitized lymph-node cells on target cells, the regional lymph-node cells obtained from the truly isologous mouse previously inoculated with A strain cells (derived from C3H mouse mammary cancer) were cultured with A cells in various ways, and obtained the following results. 1. Those regional lymph-node cells from the isologou...

Introduction: The probiotic strains of Lactic Acid Bacillus (LAB) not only affect gastrointestinal tract microflora and stimulate local immune system of this tract but also modify and stimulate systemic immunity by influence on lymph nodes and spleen. Several studies have shown the anti-tumor effect of these kinds of bacteria. This study was designed to assess the probiotic effects of lactobaci...

LYMPH NODE REVEALING SOLUTION: A NEW USEFUL METHOD FOR ISOLATION OF MINUTE AXILLARY LYMPH NODES IN BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. The most important prognostic factor in this cancer is the stage of the tumor. Detection of lymph nodes with or without malignancy is essential for determining the stage of the tumor and setting a therapeutic plan. There are different methods for isolating lymph nodes in surgical specimens of breast cancer in the pathology ...

Experimental studies of tumor immunotherapy. I. Macrophage migration inhibitory activity as an immunological parameter.

The macrophage migration inhibition activity [MI activity) was stable in sensitized lymphocyte-to-marcophage ratios of 1:5 to 1:20 in mice. Antigen protein concentrations under 100 mug/ml did not induce nonspecific macrophage migration inhibition. Inhibition of tumor proliferation and survival was observed after a combined injection of BCG and MH-134 cells. After a single injection of MH-134 tu...
