Object categorization in sub-semantic space
نویسندگان
چکیده
Due to the semantic gap, the low-level features are unsatisfactory for object categorization. Besides, the use of semantic related image representation may not be able to cope with large inter-class variations and is not very robust to noise. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel object categorization method by using the sub-semantic space based image representation. First, exemplar classifiers are trained by separating each training image from the others and serve as the weak semantic similarity measurement. Then a graph is constructed by combining the visual similarity and weak semantic similarity of these training images. We partition this graph into visually and semantically similar sub-sets. Each sub-set of images is then used to train classifiers in order to separate this sub-set from the others. The learned sub-set classifiers are then used to construct a sub-semantic space based representation of images. This sub-semantic space is not only more semantically meaningful than exemplar based representation but also more reliable and resistant to noise than traditional semantic space based image representation. Finally, we make categorization of objects using this sub-semantic space with a structure regularized SVM classifier and conduct experiments on several public datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. & 2014 Elsevier B.V. Background: Many studies have shown that about 45-65% of multiple sclerosis (M.S) patients suffer from cognitive impairments. Semantic memory as one of the subcategories of cognition is quite important for effective communication. In the present study, category-semantic memory was studied in order to evaluate the semantic memory organization in normal individuals and MS patients. Methods: Nine...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
متن کاملA Semantic Associative Computation Method for Automatic Decorative-Multimedia Creation with 'Kansei' Information
In the design of multimedia systems, one of the important issues is how to deal with “Kansei” of human beings. The concept of “Kansei” in Japanese includes several meanings on sensitive recognition, such as “impression,” “human senses,” “feelings,” “sensitivity,” “psychological reaction” and “physiological reaction.” This paper presents a new concept of “automatic decorative-multimedia creation...
متن کاملImproving Recognition through Object Sub-categorization
We propose a method to improve the recognition rate of Bayesian classifiers by splitting the training data and using separate classifier to learn each sub-category. We use probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (pLSA) to split the training set automatically into subcategories. This sub-categorization is based on the similarity of training images in terms of object’s appearance or background con...
متن کاملDiscriminative Object Categorization with External Semantic Knowledge
Visual object category recognition is one of the most challenging problems in computer vision. While effortless for humans, it is inherently difficult for machines because of the visual variations such as lighting, pose, clutter and occlusion. Even assuming that we can obtain perfect instance-level visual representations, the object category recognition problem still remains difficult for machi...
