Oz Scheduler: A Workbench for Scheduling Problems
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the Oz Scheduler, a workbench for scheduling problems. Through a graphical interface, the user can freely combine the elements that define a scheduling strategy. Such elements include constraints with different popagation behavior or distribution and search strategies. Exploring the possible combinationscan lead to better solutions. Recent and successful techniques for scheduling are incorporated. Resulting from the selections made, a constraint problem is generated dynamically. For this problem, the solution, statistics and the search can be inspected by several graphical tools. The functionality can be extended by sending messages to the Scheduler. The functionality and the implementation of the Oz Scheduler are discussed. The overall performance of the Scheduler for standard benchmarks is comparable to state-of-the-art special-purpose systems for scheduling. The implementation is based on the concurrent constraint language Oz.

A mixed-initiative scheduling workbench
In this paper we describe a decision support system for scheduling called MacMerl. This system weaves together numeric and symbolic computing techniques to form a 'scheduler's workbench'. MacMerl has two major components. The first is a Scheduling Kernel which includes a Generative Scheduler, a Constraint Checker, and a Reactive Scheduler. The second is a Manual Scheduler which permits the huma...
متن کاملUsing UML and OCL for representing multiobjective combinatorial optimization problems
This paper describes the results of a preliminary feasibility study of an approach to representing Multiobjective Combinatorial Optimization Problems in UML (structural constraints) and OCL (procedural constraints) and then automatically translating the representations to a Constraint Satisfaction solving language (Oz) for execution. The paper presents two examples of the application of the app...
متن کاملThe SRMS Workbench
Statistical Rate Monotonic Scheduling (SRMS) is a generalization of the classical RMS results of Liu and Layland [LL73] for periodic tasks with highly variable execution times and statistical QoS requirements. The main tenet of SRMS is that the variability in task resource requirements could be smoothed through aggregation to yield guaranteed QoS. This aggregation is done over time for a given ...
متن کاملStarvation Free Scheduler for Buffered Crossbar Switches (RESEARCH NOTE)
Need for high speed internet connectivity has lead to a substantial research in switching systems. Buffered crossbar switches have received a lot of attention from both research and industrial communities due of its flexibility and scalability. Designing a scheduling algorithm for buffered crossbar switches without starvation is a major challenge as of now. In this paper, we proposed a Delay ba...
متن کاملUsing Task Density as Heuristic to Schedule Real-time Tasks∗
The purpose of this paper is to present the density of a task as a heuristic to schedule real-time tasks. The density of a task is defined as the ratio between the computation time of the task and the minimum of its relative deadline and period. We propose the Highest Task Density First (HTDF) algorithm to schedule tasks in real-time systems. HTDF is a dynamic priority scheduling algorithm that...
