چکیده

he electrodeposition of zinc on iron and steel for protection T against corrosion was first proposed in 1840. The combination of aesthetic appeal and protection thus provided has established bright zinc plating as an important process in modern industry. In today's technology, zinc is preferably deposited from acid-type electrolytes, especially chloride, as an alternative to those based on cyanide, which are highly toxic.' Various attempts have been made by different workers to study acid electrolytes."' A review of the literature found that the electrodeposition of zinc from an acetate electrolyte had not been investigated, although an acetate as a minor ingredient had been experimented upon by various investigators. Hence, it was considered useful to study the electrodeposition of zinc from an acetate electrolyte. Here, details of an acetate-based bath composition and the effects of variation of operating parameters, such as current density, temperature, agitation, and solution pH on the nature of the deposits, are reported. Deposit microhardness and solution throwing power were also determined.

The electrodeposition of zinc alloys from ionic liquid electrolytes

Electrodeposited zinc alloys have long been recognised as effective barrier and sacrificial coatings for ferrous substrates. The effect of alloying zinc with, in the main, more noble metals, has produced finishes of higher corrosion resistance than simply electrodeposited zinc. In this manner zinc alloys such as zinc-nickel, zinc-cobalt and zinc-iron are routinely electrodeposited on an industr...

Electrochemical Treatment of Metal Plating Wastes Using Flow-through Porous Carbon Electrodes

A three-dimensional, porous electrode composed of reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) has been examined for the selective removal of metals by electrodeposition from single and multi-component solutions. A three-stage system was envisioned where each metal from a ternary mixture could be selectively removed in each stage. Single and multi-component solutions of copper, nickel, zinc and silver wer...

Homoleptic and heteroleptic N-alkylimidazole zinc(ii)-containing ionic liquids for high current density electrodeposition.

New homoleptic and heteroleptic zinc(ii)-containing liquid metal salts with N-alkylimidazole (AlkIm) ligands and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (Tf2N(-)) anions are described. The general formulae of the complexes are [Zn(AlkIm)6][Tf2N]2 and [Zn(AlkIm)6-x(AlkIm')x][Tf2N]2. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that, in the solid state, the cations consist of octahedral zinc(ii) centres. ...

Supercritical Antisolvent Precipitation of Amorphous Copper–Zinc Georgeite and Acetate Precursors for the Preparation of Ambient‐Pressure Water‐Gas‐Shift Copper/Zinc Oxide Catalysts

A series of copper-zinc acetate and zincian georgeite precursors have been produced by supercritical CO2 antisolvent (SAS) precipitation as precursors to Cu/ZnO catalysts for the water gas shift (WGS) reaction. The amorphous materials were prepared by varying the water/ethanol volumetric ratio in the initial metal acetate solutions. Water addition promoted georgeite formation at the expense of ...

Detection of inorganic ions from water by electrospray ionization-ion mobility spectrometry.

The results from this study illustrate the first time electrospray ionization-ion mobility spectrometry (ESI-IMS) has been used to separate inorganic cations in aqueous solutions. Using ESI-IMS nine inorganic cation solutions were analyzed. Counter ions affected both the sensitivity and the identity of the response ions. Aluminum sulfate, lanthanum chloride, strontium chloride, uranyl acetate, ...
