چکیده
Copyright © 2010 Massachusetts Medical Society. A 43-year-old man presents for evaluation of recurrent kidney stones. He passed his first stone 9 years earlier and has had two additional symptomatic stones. Analysis of the first and the last stones showed that they contained 80% calcium oxalate and 20% calcium phosphate. Analysis of a 24-hour urine collection while the patient was not receiving medications revealed a calcium level of 408 mg (10.2 mmol), an oxalate level of 33 mg (367 μmol), and a volume of 1.54 liters; the urine pH was 5.6. The patient had been treated with 20 to 40 mmol of potassium citrate daily since he passed his first stone. How should he be further evaluated and treated?

Association of Polymorphism at 3׳-UTR of Urokinase Gene with Risk of Calcium Kidney Stones
Urokinase might play a role in the formation of kidney stones. This study was done to determine the association between +4065 T/C polymorphism at the 3′-untranslated region of urokinase gene and calcium kidney stones. This Case-Control study was carried out on 70 cases with a history of calcium kidney stones and 70 controls from the Baqiyatallah hospital of Tehran in 2013. The study of polymorp...

متن کاملA Survey on the Presence of Calcifying Nanoparticles in Renal Stones, Gallbladder Stones and Atherosclerosis Plaque
Background & Aims: Calcifying nanoparticles are different forms of calcium and phosphate in sediments. Recent evidence suggests that calcifying nanoparticles (CNPs) are probably selfreplicating. Several diseases are linked to nano-bacteria including kidney stones, gallbladder stone, cardiovascular plaques, oral–dental plaque, many cancers, and autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to a...
متن کاملTreatment and prevention of kidney stones: an update.
The incidence of nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) is rising worldwide, especially in women and with increasing age. Kidney stones are associated with chronic kidney disease. Preventing recurrence is largely specific to the type of stone (e.g., calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, cystine, struvite [magnesium ammonium phosphate]), and uric acid stones); however, even when the stone cannot be retri...
