چکیده

Marco Baggiolin i. M.D.; Bernhard Moser, and Ian Clark-Lewis I nterleukin-8 (IL-8) is the best known represemitative of’ a new class of chemsiotactic cytokines, miow called chemokines, which activate leukocytes, amid are widely studied because of their role as novel mediators of inflamnmation.’2 Two subfamiiies of chemokines are distinguished according to the arraisgemnent of the first two of four conserved cysteines, which are either separated by one amino acid (CXC chemokines) or adjacent (CC chemokines). The CXC chemokines act mainly on neutrophil heukocytes, while CC chemokines have a broader spectrum of activities amid can stimiiulate monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, and even lymphocytes.2 The genes of the two suhfamihies are clustered on different chromosomes, numnber 4 for the CXC and numnher 17 for the CC chemokines 2

Disparate gene expression of chemotactic cytokines by human mononuclear phagocytes.

Chemotactic cytokines are becoming increasingly recognized as important participants in the coordinate recruitment of specific inflammatory cells. In this manuscript we present data demonstrating that LPS challenged human mononuclear phagocytic cells can express mRNA for neutrophil chemotactic factor/interleukin-8 (NCF/IL-8), but do not express mRNA for monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP). The e...

Chemotaxis and chemotactic selection induced with cytokines (IL-8, RANTES and TNF-alpha) in the unicellular Tetrahymena pyriformis.

Three representative cytokines interleukin (IL-8), RANTES and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) have a concentration-dependent chemotactic effect on the unicellular Tetrahymena. Maximal effective concentrations of IL-8 (1 ng/ml) and RANTES (75 ng/ml) are in the same range as in mammals, which indicates an evolutionary background of physiological effects elicited. Progeny generations of c...

The role of chemokines and chemokine receptors in mycosis fungoides

Background: Chemokines are a family of cytokines initially characterized by their capacity to induce chemotaxis, or directed leukocyte migrations. These receptors are activated by chemotactic cytokines called chemokines. Interactions between chemokines and chemokine receptors also are involved in tumorigenesis, migration and invasion of lymphoma cells. Methods: An English literature search...

Cytokines derived from cultured skeletal muscle cells after mechanical strain promote neutrophil chemotaxis in vitro.

We tested the hypothesis that cytokines derived from differentiated skeletal muscle cells in culture induce neutrophil chemotaxis after mechanical strain. Flexible-bottom plates with cultured human muscle cells attached were exposed to mechanical strain regimens (ST) of 0, 10, 30, 50, or 70 kPa of negative pressure. Conditioned media were tested for the ability to induce chemotaxis of human blo...

Peripheral blood (PB) concentrations of neutrophil chemoattractant IL-8 and Th1-related cytokines are elevated during febrile episodes in children with periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome

Purpose PFAPA is an autoinflammatory syndrome of childhood characterized by recurrent attacks of fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and adenitis. The underlying immune disorder is poorly understood, albeit activation of Th1 related cytokines has been observed. We aimed to compare concentration of proinflammatory cytokines and selected chemokines in PB during and between febrile episodes in...
