چکیده

ÐRecursive Diagonal Torus (RDT), a class of interconnection network is proposed for massively parallel computers with up to 2 nodes. By making the best use of a recursively structured diagonal mesh (torus) connection, the RDT has a smaller diameter (e.g., it is 11 for 2 nodes) with a smaller number of links per node (i.e., 8 links per node) than those of the hypercube. A simple routing algorithm, called vector routing, which is near-optimal and easy to implement is also proposed. Although the congestion on upper rank tori sometimes degrades the performance under the random traffic, the RDT provides much better performance than that of a 2D/3D torus in most cases and, under hot spot traffic, the RDT provides much better performance than that of a 2D/3D/4D torus. The RDT router chip which provides a message multicast for maintaining cache consistency is available. Using the 0:5 m BiCMOS SOG technology, versatile functions, including hierarchical multicasting, combining acknowledge packets, shooting down/restart mechanism, and time-out/setup mechanisms, work at a 60MHz clock rate. Index TermsÐInterconnection network, massively parallel computer, routing algorithm, router chip, mesh network, torus network, message multicast.

A Torus Assignment for an Interconnection Network Recursive Diagonal Torus

Recursive Diagonal Torus (RDT) is a class of interconnection network consisting of recursively overlaid twodimensional square diagonal tori for massively parallel computers with up to 2 nodes. Connection structures of the RDT vary according to the assignment of upper rank diagonal tori into a node. Although traditional simple assignment called RDT(2,4,1)/ shows enough performance under the unif...

Hierarchical Bit-Map Directory Schemes on the RDT Interconnection Network for a Massively Parallel Processor JUMP-1

JUMP-1 is currently under development by seven Japanese universities to establish techniques of an e cient distributed shared memory on a massively parallel processor. It provides a memory coherency control scheme called the hierarchical bit-map directory to achieve cost e ective and high performance management of the cache memory. Messages for maintaining cache coherency are transferred throug...

TTN: A High Performance Hierarchical Interconnection Network for Massively Parallel Computers

Interconnection networks play a crucial role in the performance of massively parallel computers. Hierarchical interconnection networks provide high performance at low cost by exploring the locality that exists in the communication patterns of massively parallel computers. A Tori connected Torus Network (TTN) is a 2D-torus network of multiple basic modules, in which the basic modules are 2D-toru...

A Scalable Optical Hypercube - based Interconnection Network for Massively Parallel Computing

Two important parameters of a network for massively parallel computers are scalability and modularity. Scalability has two aspects; size and time (or generation). Size-scalability refers to the property that the size of the network can be increased with nominal e ect on the existing con guration. Also, the increase in size is expected to result in a linear increase in performance. Time-scalabil...

The RDT network router chip

The RDT network Router chip is a versatile router for the massively parallel computer prototype JUMP-1, which is currently under development by collaboration between 7 Japanese universities[1]. The major goal of this project is to establish techniques for building an e cient distributed shared memory on a massively parallel processor. For this purpose, the reduced hierarchical bit-map directory...
