Real-time Wavefront Reconstruction from Intensity Measurements

چکیده
Abstract. We propose an efficient approximation to the nonlinear phase diversity method for wavefront reconstruction from intensity measurements. The new method, iterative linear phase diversity (ILPD), assumes that the residual phase aberration is small and makes use of a first order Taylor expansion of the point spread function (PSF) performed for an arbitrary (large) diversity in order to optimize the phase retrieval. For static aberrations, ILPD makes use of two images collected at each iteration of the algorithm. In each step, the residual phase aberrations are estimated by solving a linear least squares problem, followed by the use of a deformable mirror to correct for the aberrations. A further contribution of the paper is the extension of the static ILPD to the case of dynamic wavefront reconstruction for which a computationally efficient H2 controller is presented.

Compressive Sampling in Intensity Based Control for Adaptive Optics
The central problem in Adaptive Optics feedback control is the reconstruction of the aberrated wavefront from wavefront sensor measurements. We recently presented a novel algorithm to compute the wavefront estimate directly from (Shack-)Hartmann intensity images instead of using the classical centroid algorithm to approximate the local wavefront slopes. The novel algorithm allows a distributed ...
متن کاملMasters Thesis: Distributed Wavefront Reconstruction for Adaptive Optics Systems
We are currently facing an increasing amount of challenges in the area of photonics as more and more applications in need for active “photon control” sprout in different fields of science. Adaptive Optics (AO) is the subject which deals with measuring, reconstructing, and reshaping the phase of a photon wavefront in real-time and can, thus, provide the framework for controlling the photons in a...

Real-time turbulence profiling is necessary to tune tomographic wavefront reconstruction algorithms for wide-field adaptive optics (AO) systems on large to extremely large telescopes, and to perform a variety of image post-processing tasks involving point-spread function reconstruction. This paper describes a computationally efficient and accurate numerical technique inspired by the slope detec...
متن کاملError analysis and correction in wavefront reconstruction from the transport-of-intensity equation.
Wavefront reconstruction from the transport-of-intensity equation (TIE) is a well-posed inverse problem given smooth signals and appropriate boundary conditions. However, in practice experimental errors lead to an ill-condition problem. A quantitative analysis of the effects of experimental errors is presented in simulations and experimental tests. The relative importance of numerical, misalign...
متن کاملComparison of Phase Diversity and Curvature Wavefront Sensing
We compare phase diversity and curvature wavefront sensing. Besides having completely different reconstruction algorithms, the two methods measure data in different domains: phase diversity very near to the focal plane, and curvature wavefront sensing far from the focal plane in quasi-pupil planes, which enable real-time computation of the wavefront using analog techniques. By using information...
