چکیده

For intelligent agents modeled to emulate people, reference resolution is memory management: when processing an object or event – whether it appears in language or in the simulated physical or cognitive experience of the agent – the agent must determine how that object or event correlates with known objects and events, and must store the new memory with semantically explicit links to related prior knowledge. This paper discusses eventualities for memorybased reference resolution and the modeling strategies used in the OntoAgent environment to permit agents to fully and automatically make reference decisions.

A Feature Selection Approach for Emulating the Structure of Mental Representations

In order to develop artificial agents operating in complex ever-changing environments, advanced technical memory systems are required. At this juncture, two central questions are which information needs to be stored and how it is represented. On the other hand, cognitive psychology provides methods to measure the structure of mental representations in humans. But the nature and the characterist...

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....

Investigating the role of memory in interactions between intelligent virtual characters and humans over time

Memory is an important ability in aiding human interactions. It allows us to build interpersonal relationships by helping the development of trust and sharing of knowledge. Our ability to remember names, faces, places, events and other details enriches our ability to communicate. It therefore seems intuitive that any intelligent virtual character interacting with humans over a period of time sh...

Let's Talk Topically with Artificial Agents! - Providing Agents with Humanlike Topic Awareness in Everyday Dialog Situations

Spoken interactions between humans are characterized by coherent sequences of utterances assigning a thematical structure to the whole conversation. Such coherence and the success of a meaningful and flexible dialog are based on the cognitive ability to be aware of the ongoing conversational topic. This paper presents how to enable such topically coherent conversations between humans and intera...

P11: The Effect of Flavonoids in Memory

Flavonoids may exert particularly powerful actions on mammalian cognition and may reverse age-related declines in memory and learning. Flavonoids can be modulated neuronal function and there by influencing memory, learning and cognitive function. Dietary supplementation with flavonoid-rich foods, such as blueberry, green tea and Ginkgo biloba lead to significant reversals of age-related deficit...
