IP Broadcast over ATM Networks

چکیده
IP Broadcast over ATM Networks Status of this Memo This document specifies an Internet standards track protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the "Internet Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This memo describes how the IP multicast service being developed by the IP over ATM working group may be used to support IP broadcast transmission. The solution revolves around treating the broadcast problem as a special case of multicast, where every host in the subnet or cluster is a member of the group. An understanding of the services provided by RFC 2022 is assumed.

Number : Telematics for Research 4007 Project Title : Multimedia Education and Conferencing Collaboration over ATM Networks and Others ( MECCANO )
The aim of the MECCANO project was to provide a robust networked multimedia education and conferencing environment, suitable for use over a wide range of network technologies. To cope with the heterogeneity this implies, the Internet Protocol (IP) was adopted as a unifying platform over a range of layer 2 technologies (Ethernet, ATM, direct broadcast satellite, ISDN). Where it is not possible t...
متن کاملReliable Ordered Multicast Service (ROMS) over NBMA Networks
The programming of applications like distributed database systems or distributed simulations can often be simplified if the programmer can rely on a network service offering certain ordering semantics of messages. There have been numerous suggestions for systems providing such an ordering service over the Internet Protocol (IP), some taking into account NBMA (Non-Broadcast Multiple Access) netw...

ulticasting is growing in importance as new applications are devised. Throughout this article, multicasting is understood as the efficient multipoint-to-multipoint transmission of information (in terms of network resource consumption) between the members of a group. In particular, the focus is on the problems of deploying the multicast service in an ATM environment. ATM has been widely deployed...
متن کاملVirtual LAN-WAN for Workgroup Multimedia Application
Workgroup multimedia applications such as videoconference, teleteaching or CSCW demand multipoint service from Telecommunication Networks. This is not just a broadcast service but it is a service where N sites transmit traffic to N sites. This service requires that the network support a large number of workgroups with few (5-20) participants together with low delay, low delay jitter, high throu...

In this paper we present an eecient implementation of IP multicast over ATM, called ip-senate: IP multicast SErvice for Non-broadcast Access networking TEchnology built on top of congress (CONnection oriented Group-address RESolution Service). Congress is an eecient native ATM protocol for resolution and management of multicast group addresses in a large ATM cloud. It complements the native ATM...
