Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig Cell Tumour, A Rare Neoplasm: A Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
Sertoli-Leydig cell tumours are uncommon tumours comprising less than 0.5% of ovarian neoplasms. It is a sex cord stromal tumour. As the name indicates, Sertoli-Leydig cell tumours are composed of a mixture of variable proportions of cells morphologically resembling male Sertoli and Leydig cells. Most tumours are unilateral and confined to ovaries. And they are seen during the second and third decades of life. These tumours are characterized by the presence of testicular structures that produce androgens. Hence, many patients have symptoms of virilisation depending on the quantity of androgen production. Small subsets of them are hyperestrogenic. The second characteristic feature of this tumour is the degree of differentiation of structure in them. Histologically, these are classified (WHO) as well-differentiated, with intermediate differentiation, poorly differentiated, with heterologous components and retiform type. Prognosis depends upon the degree of tumour differentiation (grading) and tumour extent (staging).

Sertoli leydig cell tumors are exceedingly uncommon tumors of the ovary accounting for less than 0.5% of all ovarian neoplasms and 1% of sex cord tumors. These tumors are functional and secrete testosterone and only rarely they are estrogenic. Hence the patients present with virilization features. Most of the tumors are unilateral and bilaterality is extremely rare. Here we report an unusual ca...

Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors are rare sex cord-stromal tumors, accounting for less than 1% of ovarian tumors. Majority of these tumors are benign and unilateral, only 3-5% are bilateral. These patients present with clinical features of virilization due to excessive secretion of testosterone from the tumor, however 50% may have no endocrine symptoms. We report a case of poorly differentiat...

BACKGROUND Sertoli-Leydig cell tumours of the ovary account for only 0.2% of malignant ovarian tumours. Two-thirds of all patients become apparent due to the tumour's hormone production. METHODS A 41-year-old patient (gravida 4, para 4) presented with dyspnoea, enlarged abdominal girth and melaena. Diagnostic imaging was suspicious for an ovarian cancer. The standard tumour marker for ovarian...

The incidence rate is infinitely rare comprising less than 0.5% of all ovarian tumor. The average age of “retiform Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor” is 17 years as compared to 25 years for Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors as a group. We have...
