Evolution of Ethernet for Data Transport Networks

چکیده

The Recent introduction of new revenue-generating services based on Ethernet has made more acute the need to improve Ethernet by adding features essential for efficient data transport. Various enhancements to the bridged Ethernet protocols in terms of scalability, OAM, restoration, QoS, and synchronization are being standardized that are making the native Ethernet protocols suitable for the aggregation and large enterprise/municipalities segments, and for support of high-speed Internet. For support of triple play and for metro-core applications, however, MPLS/VPLS offers true carrier-grade operation thus opening the potential for Ethernet to replace SONET/SDH as the transport protocol of choice for network operators.

Hierarchical Ethernet Transport Network Architecture for backhaul cellular networks

Cellular traffic has been going through major changes in recent years. With the introduction of broadband services in 3G/4G and the continuously increasing provided data rates in high-speed packet access and Long Term Evolution (LTE), a broad range of cellular applications has emerged, changing the characteristics of cellular traffic. The traditional circuit-switched voice traffic has been take...

The Evolution of Aircraft Data Networks

This paper presents the evolution of Aircraft Data Networks (ADN)’s. It describes various Avionics data network protocols based on the Avionics systems architecture. The paper describes the evolution from a simple point-to-point protocol presented in ARINC 429 to a shared data bus protocol presented in ARINC 629. Finally, the new Data network based on AFDX (Avionics Full-duplex Ethernet) is dis...

PLC and SONET/SDH Networks Bridging with Ethernet

Power Line communications (PLC) provides “Broadband Ethernet” connectivity directly to the customer’s socket in home without additional cabling. However, PLC networks do not provide global end-to-end connectivity and need to rely on incumbent’s telecom networks. In order to lower the cost of CAPEX and OPEX the network interconnection is done at “Ethernet” level. Most of Incumbent’s networks are...

Reducing the Cost of Wireless Backhauling Through Circuit Emulation

Data rate requirements of backhaul connections for wireless base transceiver stations (BTSs) continue to increase, while the cost of available Gigabit Ethernet connections decreases. As a result, IP/Ethernet backhauling has become a prime choice for new installments. However, for the hundreds of thousands of basestations deployed with time-division multiplexed (TDM) connections (E1/T1), carrier...

Xcellence in Networking

Xcell Journal Third Quarter 2011 Traditional telecom networks are fundamentally configured to transport voice, such as phone service. Internet services piggyback on this legacy platform. Currently, designers are creating the next-generation network (NGN) to transport data, voice and video simultaneously, providing transparency and scalability while minimizing total operational cost. The NGN is ...
