چکیده

I study the normal-to-superconducting (NS) transition within the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) model, taking into account the fluctuations in the m-component complex order parameter ψ α and the vector potential A in the arbitrary dimension d, for any m. I find that the transition is of second-order and that the previous conclusion of the fluctuation-driven first-order transition is an artifact of the breakdown of the ǫ-expansion and the inaccuracy of the 1/m-expansion for physical values ǫ = 1, m = 1. I compute the anomalous η(d, m) exponent at the NS transition, and find η(3, 1) ≈ −0.38. In the m → ∞ limit, η(d, m) becomes exact and agrees with the 1/m-expansion. Near d = 4 the theory is also in good agreement with the perturbative ǫ-expansion results for m > 183 and provides a sensible interpolation formula for arbitrary d and m.

The spin stiffness ρ s of the repulsive Hubbard model that occurs in the hy-drodynamic theory of antiferromagnetic spin waves is shown to be the same as the thermodynamically defined stiffness involved in twisting the order parameter. New expressions for ρ s are derived, which enable easier interpretation , and connections with superconducting weight and gauge invariance are discussed.

The dual approach to the Ginzburg-Landau theory of a Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductor is reviewed. The dual theory describes a grand canonical ensemble of fluctuating closed magnetic vortices, of arbitrary length and shape, which interact with a massive vector field representing the local magnetic induction. When the critical temperature is approached from below, the magnetic vortices p...

A nested Fermi surface with nearly parallel orbit segments is found to yield a singlet d–wave superconducting state at high temperatures for a restricted range of the on–site Coulomb repulsion that avoids the competing spin density wave instability. The computed superconducting transition temperature drops dramatically as the nesting vector is decreased, in accord with recent photo–emission dat...
