Case for Support Designing Display Dynamics with Supportive Evaluation Techniques Part 1: Previous Research and Track Record

A: Results And Conclusions Of Recent Work Previous work funded by EPSRC (GR/M89331) has validated a theoretical analysis of cutting in cinema film, which will in this project be applied to interface design. There are two main phases to the project. First, usability experiments will use display designs based upon existing commercial interfaces in which the dynamic aspects flout the theoretically derived design principles, and compare them with modified interfaces that follow the principles. Second, the principles will be embodied within a Supportive Evaluation Technique (SET) for use at any stage of the design process, alongside and within established design processes, and which help designers to reason about the psychological implications and requirements of their designs.
