چکیده
We overview recent results related to Herbrand's theorem and tableau-like methods of automated deduction. Based on an analysis and discussion of these results, open problems are posed and new research directions are suggested.

K-clusters Tableaux a Tool for Modal Logics and Inconsistent Belief Sets
The goal of this paper is to present a tableau calculus for propositional modal logics that is e ective for automated proof search, easy to use for proof presentation, and applicable to a wide range of modal logics for knowledge representation. The calculus is also enhanced to provide a form of contextual reasoning to deal with (classical) inconsistency. The basic tableau calculus (Single Step ...
متن کاملBertrand Russell, Herbrand's Theorem, and the Assignment Statement
While propositional modal logic is a standard tool, first-order modal logic is not. Indeed, it is not generally understood that conventional first-order syntax is insufficiently expressible. In this paper we sketch a natural syntax and semantics for first-order modal logic, and show how it easily copes with well-known problems. And we provide formal tableau proof rules to go with the semantics,...

متن کاملA Tableau Calculus for Pronoun Resolution
Appeared in: N.V. Murray, editor, Automated Reasoning with Analytic Tableaux and Related Methods (TABLEAUX’99), Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence 1617, Springer, pages 247–262, 1999. We present a tableau calculus for reasoning in fragments of natural language. We focus on the problem of pronoun resolution and the way in which it complicates automated theorem proving for natural language ...
متن کاملOn Herbrand's Theorem for Intuitionistic Logic
In this paper we reduce the question of validity of a first-order intuitionistic formula without equality to generating ground instances of this formula and then checking whether the instances are deducible in a propositional intuitionistic tableaux calculus, provided that the propositional proof is compatible with the way how the instances were generated. This result can be seen as a form of t...
