Parametric system identification of resonant micro/nanosystems operating in a nonlinear response regime

چکیده
The parametric system identification of macroscale resonators operating in a nonlinear response regime can be a challenging research problem, but at the microand nanoscales, experimental constraints add additional complexities. For example, due to the small and noisy signals micro/nanoresonators produce, a lock-in amplifier is commonly used to characterize the amplitude and phase responses of the systems. While the lock-in enables detection, it also prohibits the use of established time-domain, multi-harmonic, and frequency-domain methods, which rely upon time-domain measurements. As such, the only methods that can be used for parametric system identification are those based on fitting experimental data to an approximate solution, typically derived via perturbation methods and/or Galerkin methods, of a reduced-order model. Thus, one could view the parametric system identification of micro/nanosystems operating in a nonlinear response regime as the amalgamation of four coupled sub-problems: nonparametric system identification, or proper experimental design and data acquisition; the generation of physically consistent reduced-order models; the calculation of accurate approximate responses; and the application of nonlinear least-squares parameter estimation. This work is focused on the theoretical foundations that underpin each of these sub-problems, as the methods used to address one sub-problem can strongly influence the results of another. To provide context, an electromagnetically transduced microresonator is used as an example. This example provides a concrete reference for the presented findings and conclusions. & 2016 Elsevier Ltd. System identification of a beam with frictional contact
The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...
متن کاملThe Effects of Nonlinearity on Parametric Amplifiers
Mechanical and electromechanical parametric amplifiers have garnered significant interest, as of late, due to the increased need for low-noise signal amplification in resonant micro/nanosystems. While these devices, which are traditionally designed to operate in a linear range, potentially represent an elegant, on-chip amplification solution, it is not readily apparent that this technical appro...
متن کاملThe impact of nonlinearity on degenerate parametric amplifiers
This work investigates the effects of system nonlinearities on degenerate parametric amplifiers. A simple, Duffing-type nonlinearity is appended to a representative equation of motion for a mechanical or electromechanical parametric amplifier, and classical perturbation methods are used to characterize the resulting effects on the amplifier’s frequency response and performance. Ultimately, the ...

Electrostatically-actuated resonant microbeam devices have garnered significant attention due to their geometric simplicity and broad applicability. Recently, some of this focus has turned to comb-driven microresonators with purely-parametric excitation, as such systems not only exhibit the inherent benefits of MEMS devices, but also a general improvement in sensitivity, stopband attenuation an...
متن کاملApplication of ANN Technique for Interconnected Power System Load Frequency Control (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper describes an application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to Load Frequency Control (LFC) of nonlinear power systems. Power systems, such as other industrial processes, have parametric uncertainties that for controller design had to take the uncertainties in to account. For this reason, in the design of LFC controller the idea of robust control theories are being used. To improve ...
