DISEASE OF THE MONTH IgA Nephropathy: Recent Developments
نویسندگان
چکیده
IgA nephropathy (IgAN), a mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (GN), is the most common GN in all parts of the world where renal biopsy is widely practiced. It is unique among glomerular diseases in being defined by immunohistochemical findings, i.e., mesangial deposition of IgA, rather than by light microscopy. Because the clinical features of IgAN were discussed in 1997 (1), we focus on recent developments in IgAN. Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is an IgA-mediated systemic vasculitis in which the glomerular disease may be indistinguishable from IgAN. IgAN seems to be a kidney-restricted form of HSP. HSP is not discussed in detail here; the reader is referred to the recent review by Rai and colleagues (2).

During a 14-month period (Dec. 1990-Jan. 1992) , renal biopsies were performed on 105 patients with suspected glomerular disease. All specimens were processed for light microscopy (L.M) and immunoflourescence. Work-up revealed 21 patients to suffer a systemic glomerular disease and glomerular disease was found to be primery in 85 cases. Predominant IgG deposition was noted in 71 cases with prim...
متن کاملClinical, Histopathological and Immunofluorescent Findings of IgA Nephropathy
Background: IgA nephropathy, a prevalent disease in Asia, is considered the main cause of end stage renal disease among primary glomerular disease. Objective: To determine the frequency of different clinical, histopathological and immunofluorescent characteristics of IgA nephropathy. Methods: Renal biopsies of 376 patients were received for immunofluorescent and for histopathological studies. B...
متن کاملReport of a Case of Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy in a Patient Without a Family History of Kidney Disease
Introduction: IgA Nephropathy is the most common form of glomerulonephritis and the major cause of end-stage renal disease. Gross or microscopic hematuria is a common symptom of hematuria and occurs in less than 5% to 10% of patients with IGM with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic biomarkers of this disease after biopsy. Methods: IgA...
متن کاملCoexistant of Fabry Disease and IgA Glomerulonephritis in a 39 year old male
Anderson-Fabry disease is a rare inherited X-linked lysosomal storage disease caused by deficiency of the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A. Hereby we report a 39 year old male that presented with proteinuria and edema. Histopathologic, immunofluorescence and ultrastractural examination of renal tissue were in favor of Fabry disease in associate with IgA nephropathy. Fabry's disease associated ...
متن کاملNew developments in the genetics, pathogenesis, and therapy of IgA nephropathy
Recent years have brought notable progress in the field of IgA nephropathy. Here, we highlight important new directions and latest developments, including successful discovery of several genetic susceptibility loci, formulation of the multihit pathogenesis model, introduction of the Oxford pathology scoring system, and formalization of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) consen...
