چکیده

We give a classification of all equivelar polyhedral maps on the torus. In particular, we classify all triangulations and quadrangulations of the torus admitting a vertex transitive automorphism group. These are precisely the ones which are quotients of the regular tessellations {3, 6}, {6, 3} or {4, 4} by a pure translation group. An explicit formula for the number of combinatorial types of equivelar maps (polyhedral and non-polyhedral) with n vertices is obtained in terms of arithmetic functions in elementary number theory, such as the number of integer divisors of n. The asymptotic behaviour for n → ∞ is also discussed, and an example is given for n such that the number of distinct equivelar triangulations of the torus with n vertices is larger than n itself. The numbers of regular and chiral maps are determined separately, as well as the ones for all other kinds of symmetry. Furthermore, arithmetic properties of the integers of type p2+pq+q2 (or p2+q2, resp.) can be interpreted and visualized by the hierarchy of covering maps between regular and chiral equivelar maps or type {3, 6} (or {4, 4}, resp.).

3 0 Ju n 20 05 A note on the existence of { k , k } - equivelar polyhedral maps

A polyhedral map is called {p, q}-equivelar if each face has p edges and each vertex belongs to q faces. In [12], it was shown that there exist infinitely many geometrically realizable {p, q}-equivelar polyhedral maps if q > p = 4, p > q = 4 or q − 3 > p = 3. It was shown in [6] that there exist infinitely many {4, 4}and {3, 6}-equivelar polyhedral maps. In [1], it was shown that {5, 5}and {6, ...

Contractible Hamiltonian Cycles in Triangulated Surfaces

A triangulation of a surface is called q-equivelar if each of its vertices is incident with exactly q triangles. In 1972 Altshuler had shown that an equivelar triangulation of torus has a Hamiltonian Circuit. Here we present a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a contractible Hamiltonian Cycle in equivelar triangulation of a surface. AMS classification : 57Q15, 57M20, 57N05.

The Edge - minimal Polyhedral Maps of Euler Characteristic – 8 ∗

In [2], a {5, 5}-equivelar polyhedral map of Euler characteristic −8 was constructed. In this article we prove that {5, 5}-equivelar polyhedral map of Euler characteristic −8 is unique. As a consequence, we get that the minimum number of edges in a non-orientable polyhedral map of Euler characteristic −8 is > 40. We have also constructed {5, 5}-equivelar polyhedral map of Euler characteristic −...

Isomorphism-free lexicographic enumeration of triangulated surfaces and 3-manifolds

We present a fast enumeration algorithm for combinatorial 2and 3-manifolds. In particular, we enumerate all triangulated surfaces with 11 and 12 vertices and all triangulated 3-manifolds with 11 vertices. We further determine all equivelar maps on the non-orientable surface of genus 4 as well as all equivelar triangulations of the orientable surface of genus 3 and the non-orientable surfaces of...
