The Design of User Interfaces for Digital Speech Recognition Software

چکیده
puters using toggle switches, punched cards, and punched paper tape. In the 1970s, the common control mechanism was the keyboard on teletypes and on video terminals. In the 1980s, with the advent of graphical user interfaces, people found that a new mode of interaction with the computer was useful. The concept of a pointer—the mouse—evolved. Its popularity grew such that the mouse is now a standard component of every modern computer. In the 1990s, the time is right to add yet another mode of interaction with the computer. As compute power grows each year, the boundary of the man–machine interface can move from interaction that is native to the computer toward communication that is natural to humans, that is, speech recognition.

Towards best practices for speech user interface design
Designing speech interfaces is difficult. Research on spoken language systems and commercial application development has created a body of speech interface design knowledge. However, this knowledge is not easily accessible to practitioners. Few experts understand both speech recognition and human factors well enough to avoid the pitfalls of speech interface design. To facilitate the design of b...
متن کاملMEDUSA: User-Centred Design and usability evaluation of Automatic Speech Recognition telephone services in Telefónica Móviles España
One of the greatest challenges in the design of speech recognition based interfaces is about the navigation through the different service hierarchies and structures. On the one hand, the interactions based on human machine dialogues force a high level of hierarchical structuring of services, and on the other hand, it is necessary to wait for the last phases of the user interface development to ...
متن کاملA Prototype Robot Speech Interface with Multimodal Feedback
Speech recognition is available on ordinary personal computers and is starting to appear in standard software applications. A known problem with speech interfaces is their integration into current graphical user interfaces. This paper reports on a prototype developed for studying integration of speech into graphical interfaces aimed towards programming of industrial robot arms. The aim of the p...
متن کاملInvestigating the Level of Observing the Evaluation Criteria for User Interface in library services providing to the blind and deaf users in the word
Purpose: Digital library user interfaces has a determining role in desirable performance of this kind of libraries. Digital Library service providers to the blind and deaf users will have their best performance when the users (deaf and blind users) could have a proper interaction with them. This study aims to evaluate and analyze the criteria related to user interface in digital libraries servi...
متن کاملA Listening Keyboard for Users with Motor
Computer users with motor impairments find it difficult and, in many cases, impossible to access PC functionality through the physical keyboard-and-mouse interface. Studies show that even able-bodied users experience similar difficulties when interacting with mobile devices; this is due to the reduced size/usability of the input interfaces. Advances in speech recognition have made it possible t...
