Recognition and Discrimination of Ethanol and Methanol Odour with Applications for Robotic Swarm Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper reports on work done towards the development of an odour sensing system that has the capability to distinguish between two different odours, namely ethanol and methanol. A recognition strategy has been developed that is capable of performing the aforementioned task. The odour sensor used is the commercially available gas sensor TGS2600 by Figaro. The computational requirements are provided by a M16C/62 Mitsubishi Microcontroller which can be interfaced to a PC for higher-level data collection. This work has potential applications for the field of swarm robotics. Multitudes of simple robots equipped with the ability to smell and recognise odours could potentially be controlled by plumes of recogniseable odour. With different odours conveying different messages, individual behaviour and hence collective behaviour could be modified.

Effects of Foliar and Root Applications of Hydro-Alcoholic Solutions on Physiological and Biochemical Attributes and Fruit Yield and Weight of Strawberry
Abstract An investigation was undertaken to ascertain the influence of hydro-alcoholic solutions on plant growth as well as quality attributes of strawberry fruits. The mother plants of strawberry (Fragaria ananasa cv. Gaviota) were subjected to various aqueous solutions of ethanol (15, 30%), methanol (15, 30%) and the mixture of ethanol + methanol (15 or 30%) plus the control (water only) as...
متن کاملA New Solution for the Cyclic Multiple-Part Type Three-Machine Robotic Cell Problem based on the Particle Swarm Meta-heuristic
In this paper, we develop a new mathematical model for a cyclic multiple-part type threemachine robotic cell problem. In this robotic cell a robot is used for material handling. The objective is finding a part sequence to minimize the cycle time (i.e.; maximize the throughput) with assumption of known robot movement. The developed model is based on Petri nets and provides a new method to calcul...

In this study, a novel control algorithm, based on a P300-based brain-computer interface (BCI) is fully developed to control a 2-DoF robotic arm. Eight subjects including 5 men and 3 women perform a 2-dimensional target tracking in a simulated environment. Their EEG (Electroencephalography) signals from visual cortex are recorded and P300 components are extracted and evaluated to perform a real...

Introduction & Aim: The aim of this study was evaluating effect of methanol and ethanol foliar application as a new and safe technology in plant production on lemon balm’s (Melissa officinalis L.) volatile oil components. Experimental: Experimental carried out based on a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with fifteen treatments and three replications in the experimental field of...
متن کاملSmell, think and act: A cognitive robot discriminating odours
In this paper, we explore the integration of an electronic nose and its odour discrimination functionalities into a multi-sensing robotic system which works over an extended period of time. The robot patrols an office environment, collecting odour samples of objects and performing user requested tasks. By considering an experimental platforms which operates over an extended period of time, a nu...
