چکیده

We evaluate the output of a Markov model-based harmonic progression generator, a classic model for corpus-based computational creativity. 87 participants performed a discrimination task classifying 20 musical excerpts as either human-composed or computer-composed. Also recorded was each participant's level of confidence in their choice. Results indicated that while overall performance was above what would be expected from random guessing, further analysis revealed this was due to the human-composed pieces being much easier to identify than computer-composed pieces. Assessed separately, participants were unable to identify computer-composed pieces above chance-levels. We suggest improvements to the experimental design that could be implement in future evaluations.

Vertical dissonance as an alternative harmonic-related perceptual feature

The purpose of this study is to explore how well dissonance fits as an alternative for a harmonic-related perceptual feature that is easily rated by human listeners. Dissonance is a well-known concept, often described as a sensation of roughness, tension and unpleasantness. For example, dissonant intervals comprised of complex tones have partials that don’t align and therefore give rise to beat...

Automatic Key Partition Based on Tonal Organization Information of Classical Music

Key information is a useful information for tonal music analysis. It is related to chord progressions, which follows some specific structures and rules. In this paper, we describe a generative account of chord progression consisting of phrase-structure grammar rules proposed by Martin Rohrmeier. With some modifications, these rules can be used to partition a chord symbol sequence into different...

Modified Multi-level Residue Harmonic Balance Method for Solving Nonlinear Vibration Problem of Beam Resting on Nonlinear Elastic Foundation

Nonlinear vibration behavior of beam is an important issue of structural engineering. In this study, a mathematical modeling of a forced nonlinear vibration of Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on nonlinear elastic foundation is presented. The nonlinear vibration behavior of the beam is investigated by using a modified multi-level residue harmonic balance method. The main advantage of the method is ...

Effect of Classical Music on Physiological Characteristics and Observational and Behavioral Measures of Pain in Unconscious Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units

Objective: Assessment and management of pain in patients under artificial respiration and hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are difficult, and is less considered by physicians and nurses. This study aims to determine the effect of classical music on physiological characteristics, and observational and behavioral measures of pain in unconscious patients admitted to ICUs. Methods: This...

Classical Wavelet Transforms over Finite Fields

This article introduces a systematic study for computational aspects of classical wavelet transforms over finite fields using tools from computational harmonic analysis and also theoretical linear algebra. We present a concrete formulation for the Frobenius norm of the classical wavelet transforms over finite fields. It is shown that each vector defined over a finite field can be represented as...
