Barrier to Rotation about Sulfur-Sulfur Bonds in Homocyclic Sulfur Molecules [1]

چکیده

It is shown that the distances (d) of the 19 longest bonds in 9 homocyclic sulfur rings of type Sn (n = 6-20) depend on the torsional angles (r) which vary between 0° and 140°. The function d = f (r) is smallest for r = 90-100° and largest for r = 0°; the corresponding bond distance variation amounts to 13 pm or 6%. The height of the torsional cis-barrier is estimated from the enthalpy of formation of gaseous S7 as equal to or smaller than 24 kJ/mol.

Correlated MO study of the low-barrier intramolecular motions in donor-acceptor ethenes.

Correlated MP2 and MCSCF MO calculations of several model push-pull ethenes in most cases indicate no great participation of excited singlet and triplet electronic configurations in either the minima or the transition structures for the suggested facilitated intramolecular rotation about the polarized C=C bond. This situation changes significantly only in molecules with sulfur atoms in the mole...

Performance Evaluation of SBS/sulfur Modified Bitumen and its Effect on Fuel Resistance

The fuel resistance property plays an important role in asphalts, but available standards for determining this characteristic are presently lacking. In the present work, a number of polymer modified bitumen with styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer (4, 5, 6% SBS) and SBS/ sulfur modified bitumen with various percentages of sulfur (1.65, 3, 3.5% based on polymer content) were prepared. Each s...

Determination of Agricultural Sulfur Effects on the Soil Structure Using Fractal Geometery and Aggregate Stability Indices

Due to unsuitable soil physical conditions, calcareous soils, and the existence of a huge amount of sulfur in the country, the study of sulfur effects on the soil structure and other soil properties is necessary. Therefore, the effects of different rates of sulfur including: 0, 750, 1500 and 3000 kg/ha, when accompanied by Halothiobacillus neapolitanus bacteria, on the soil properties in the co...

Effects of Sulfur Application on Soil pH and Uptake of Phosphorus, Iron and Zinc in Apple Trees

The main reasons for the fixation of some elements and consequently nutrient deficiencies, especially phosphorus, iron and zinc, are high levels of calcium (calcareous soils) and soil pH. Two sulfur fertilizers (sulfur alone and sulfur + organic material + Thiobacillus spp.) with two rates (2 and 4 kg sulfur/tree) were used to decrease soil pH and availability of P, Fe and Zn in apple trees dur...

Alteration of the midpoint potential and catalytic activity of the rieske iron-sulfur protein by changes of amino acids forming hydrogen bonds to the iron-sulfur cluster.

The crystal structure of the bovine Rieske iron-sulfur protein indicates a sulfur atom (S-1) of the iron-sulfur cluster and the sulfur atom (Sgamma) of a cysteine residue that coordinates one of the iron atoms form hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl groups of Ser-163 and Tyr-165, respectively. We have altered the equivalent Ser-183 and Tyr-185 in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rieske iron-sulfur pr...
