Field Theory at a Lifshitz Point

چکیده
We construct the general renormalizable actions for the scalar field and gauge field at a Lifshitz point characterized by the dynamical critical exponent z. The Lorentz invariance is broken down in the UV region, but is recovered in the IR limit. Even though the theories are UV complete, the speed of light is related to the momentum by z(k/M)z−1 which can go to infinity in the UV limit for z ≥ 2. Since the Lorentz invariance is broken down, the dispersion relation is modified and the time delays in Gamma-Ray bursts can be easily explained.

BPS solitons in Lifshitz field theories
Abstract Lorentz-invariant scalar field theories in d+1 dimensions with second-order derivative terms are unable to support static soliton solutions that are both finite in energy and stable for d > 2, a result known as Derrick’s theorem. Lifshitz theories, which introduce higher-order spatial derivatives, need not obey Derrick’s theorem. We construct stable, finite-energy, static soliton solut...
متن کاملSusceptibility amplitude ratio near a Lifshitz point
The susceptibility amplitude ratio in the neighborhood of a uniaxial Lifshitz point is calculated at one-loop level using field-theoretic and ǫL-expansion methods. We use the Schwinger parametrization of the propagator in order to split the quadratic and quartic part of the momenta, as well as a new special symmetry point suitable for renormalization purposes. For a cubic lattice (d = 3), we fi...
متن کاملAn analytic Lifshitz black hole
A Lifshitz point is described by a quantum field theory with anisotropic scale invariance (but not Galilean invariance). In 0808.1725, gravity duals were conjectured for such theories. We construct analytically a black hole which asymptotes to a vacuum Lifshitz solution; this black hole solves the equations of motion of some simple (but somewhat strange) extensions of the models of 0808.1725. متن کاملFate of Quasiparticle at Mott Transition and Interplay with Lifshitz Transition Studied by Correlator Projection Method
Filling-control metal-insulator transition on the two-dimensional Hubbard model is investigated by using the correlator projection method, which takes into account momentum dependence of the free energy beyond the dynamical mean-field theory. The phase diagram of metals and Mott insulators is analyzed. Lifshitz transitions occur simultaneously with metal-insulator transitions at large Coulomb r...
متن کاملAnisotropic Lifshitz Point at O(ǫ
We present the critical exponents νL2, ηL2 and γL for an m-axial Lifshitz point at second order in an ǫL expansion. We introduced a constraint involving the loop momenta along the m-dimensional subspace in order to perform twoand three-loop integrals. The results are valid in the range 0 ≤ m < d. The case m = 0 corresponds to the usual Ising-like critical behavior. PACS: 75.40.-s; 75.40.Cx; 64....
