A Review on Data Mining Approach for Adverse Drug Reaction Research

Tremendous researches in the drug development process currently play a crucial role on the postmarketing drug safety. Recently fast development of computational methods for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) has attracted high interest in the community of information technology. This work provides a survey on a vast variety of computational methods on ADRs. In particular, we mainly discuss sources of data and their characteristics, as well as a classification of computational methods based on data and techniques used, including their advantages and limitations. The challenges and further opportunities in this area are also provided.
