Collagen embolization for the successful treatment of a distal coronary artery perforation.

A 42-year old man suffered a coronary artery perforation in the right coronary artery secondary to a hydrophilic guidewire. We describe for the first time the use of collagen embolization to successfully treat this complication.

Is a Metallic Microcoil Really a Permanent Embolic Agent for the Management of Distal Guidewire-Induced Coronary Artery Perforation?

Coronary artery perforation (CAP) after percutaneous coronary intervention is a rare, but serious complication. It can cause cardiac tamponade, acute myocardial infarction or death. The treatments of CAP involve prolonged balloon inflation, emergent surgery, coil embolization, and implantation of covered stent. We have successfully performed the emergent microcoil embolization in a patient with...

Simple and inexpensive way for the treatment of guidewire-induced distal coronary perforation: subcutaneous fat tissue embolization

cardial infarction was admitted to the catheterization laboratory for primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Left anterior descending artery (LADa) was seen subtotally occluded immediately after the first diagonal artery (D1a) branching with TIMI 1 distal flow on coronary angiogram (Fig. 1a–c, Video 1–3). LADa and D1a were passed by a soft guidewire. After predilatation of the culprit lesi...

[Cardiac perforation complicated by cardiac tamponade and sealed with metallic coils].

Distal coronary artery perforation with an angioplasty guidewire is a rare complication that may cause cardiac tamponade, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, and even death. The use of platelet IIb/IIIa glycoprotein receptor inhibitors increases the risk of potentially fatal complications that are difficult to manage. We report a patient on treatment with abciximab who presented coronary perfora...

Management of Esophageal Perforation after Foreign Body Removal from the Esophagus via Rigid Esophagoscopy

Herein, we present the case of a 45-years-old woman with a foreign body (dental prosthesis) ingestion lodged in the esophagus(Figure.1). The foreign body was extracted by rigid esophagoscopy after severe manipulation. In 24 hours, the patient became febrile with emphysema in the neck. laboratory data showed leukocytosis and CT scan revealed signs of esophageal perforation(Figure.2). Surgical ex...
