xbind Extensions for QOS Controlled Mobility
نویسنده
چکیده
Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode (WATM) [5] is motivated by the increasing importance of portable computing applications in business, consumer and military applications. As multimedia applications migrate to portable devices, wireless extensions to existing broadband networks will be required to support the seamless delivery of integrated voice, video and data with high quality. In this context WATM is intended to be a direct extension of the wired ATM network with uniformity of end-to-end Quality of Service (QOS) guarantees.

Mobiware: QoS-aware middleware for mobile multimedia communications
Next generation wireless communications system will be required to support the seamless delivery of voice, video and data with high quality. Delivering hard Quality of Service (QOS) guarantees in the wireless domain is complex due to large-scale mobility requirements, limited radio resources and fluctuating network conditions. To address this challenge we are developing a QOS-aware middleware p...
متن کاملSupporting QOS Controlled Handoff in Mobiware
Currently, the ATM Forum’s Wireless ATM (WATM) working group is in the process of developing a set of new specifications for ATM mobility. The work encompasses the definition of a new 25 Mbps air-interface, suitable location management and a fast handoff scheme. To date, most of the working group contributions have focussed on extensions to existing signalling specifications with little regard ...
متن کاملRealizing a Foundation for Programmability of ATM Networks with the Binding Architecture
A conceptual framework, called the Binding Model, for the creation, deployment and management of multimedia services on ATM-based broadband networks with end-to-end QOS guarantees is presented. The key function of the associated Binding Architecture is to provide an open programmable environment that facilitates the easy creation of flexible services. We describe the implementation of a prototy...
متن کاملQoS Provision and Mobility Management in MIND Access Networks and Ad Hoc Extensions
One of the aims of the IST BRAIN was to build and evaluate a wireless IP access network that can simultaneously support mobile users and provide QoS for real time multimedia applications. The IST MIND project extends the BRAIN network by adding support for ad hoc access. This paper first describes the QoS and mobility management concepts developed in BRAIN, and describes the hardware infrastruc...
متن کاملMobility Management and QoS in BRAIN Access Networks
The functionality and efficiency of micro mobility schemes in wireless networks has a great impact on the overall performance of the whole network. In small cell wireless LAN environments, the network must support both frequent and numerous handovers at the same time. Together with providing fast and reliable handoffs, the micro mobility scheme must not affect the service perceived by users. Th...
