A General Construction for Nonblocking Crosstalk-Free Photonic Switching Networks

چکیده
The graph representation G(M) of a multistage switching network M is well known. Lea [IEEE Trans Commun 38 (1990), 529–538] observed that link-disjoint paths in M correspond to node-disjoint paths in G(M). He proposed G(M) as a network by treating nodes as crossbars to transfer the node-disjoint property to the crosstalk-free property essential for photonic networks using directional couplers as components. However, such a network has its peculiarities and is not commonly used. In this paper, we will show how to take advantage of this correspondence to construct nonblocking crosstalkfree networks using the vertical stacking method. Our construction simplifies the proofs of many existing results, as well as establishing some new results. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Strictly Nonblocking -Cast Photonic Networks
The multicast capability and crosstalk issue need to be deliberately considered in the design of future high performance photonic switching networks. In this paper, we focus on the photonic switching networks built on the banyan-based architecture and directional coupler technology. We explore the capability of these networks to support general -cast traffic, which covers the unicast traffic an...
متن کاملAnalyzing Nonblocking Multilog Networks with the köNIG-Egevarý Theorem
When analyzing a nonblocking switching network, the typical problem is to find a route for a new request through the network without disturbing existing routes. By solving this problem, we can derive how many hardware components of a certain type (Banyan planes in a multi-log network, for instance) are needed for the network to be nonblocking. This scenario appears in virtually all combinations...
متن کاملStrictly Nonblocking f -cast d-ary Multi-log Networks under Fanout and Crosstalk Constraints
We derive conditions which are both necessary and sufficient for the d-ary multi-log switching networks to be f cast strictly nonblocking under all combinations of fanout and crosstalk constraints. The fanout constraint tells us which stage(s) of the networks has fanout capability. The crosstalk constraint tells us whether or not two connection routes are allowed to share a link (relevant to el...
متن کاملDesign of photonic rearrangeable networks with zero first-order switching-element-crosstalk
The development of optical cross-connect architectures is a very important topic today. We consider here in particular the class of optical space-division switching fabrics configured as multistage structures built with 2 2 optical switching elements (SEs) and derived from a combination of vertical replication and horizontal expansion of Banyan networks. We determine the necessary and sufficien...
متن کاملBetter Necessary Conditions for Rearrangeably
We derive necessary conditions for the d-ary multilog switching networks to be f -cast rearrangeably nonblocking when the input stage does not have fanout capability, with and without crosstalk-free constraint. In electronic switching networks, connection routes cannot share a link but they can share a switching node. This is the case when there is no crosstalkfree constraint. In optical switch...
