SNOW - a new stream cipher?

چکیده
In this paper a new word-oriented stream cipher, called SNOW, is proposed. The design of the cipher is quite simple, consisting of a linear feedback shift register, feeding a nite state machine. The design goals of producing a stream cipher signi cantly faster than AES, with signi cantly lower implementation costs in hardware, and a security level similar to AES is currently met. Our fastest C implementation requires under 1 clock cycle per running key bit. The best attacks are generic attacks like an exhaustive key search attack.

A New Version of the Stream Cipher SNOW
In 2000, the stream cipher SNOW was proposed. A few attacks followed, indicating certain weaknesses in the design. In this paper we propose a new version of SNOW, called SNOW 2.0. The new version of the cipher does not only appear to be more secure, but its implementation is also a bit faster in software.
متن کاملThe New Heuristic Guess and Determine Attack on Snow 2.0 Stream Cipher
SNOW 2.0 is a word oriented stream cipher that has been selected as a standard stream cipher on ISO/IEC 18033-4. One of the general attacks on the stream ciphers is Guess and Determine attack. Heuristic GD attack is GD attack that represents an algorithmic method to analysis the stream cipher with the variables of the same size. The results of HGD attack on TIPSY, SNOW 1.0 and SNOW 2.0 stream c...
متن کاملImproved Linear Distinguishers for SNOW 2.0
In this paper we present new and more accurate estimates of the biases of the linear approximation of the FSM of the stream cipher SNOW 2.0. Based on improved bias estimates we also find a new linear distinguisher with bias 2−86.9 that is significantly stronger than the previously found ones by Watanabe et al. (2003) and makes it possible to distinguish the output keystream of SNOW 2.0 of lengt...
متن کاملSosemanuk, a Fast Software-Oriented Stream Cipher
Sosemanuk is a new synchronous software-oriented stream cipher, corresponding to Profile 1 of the ECRYPT call for stream cipher primitives. Its key length is variable between 128 and 256 bits. It accommodates a 128-bit initial value. Any key length is claimed to achieve 128-bit security. The Sosemanuk cipher uses both some basic design principles from the stream cipher SNOW 2.0 and some transfo...
متن کاملMultiset Collision Attacks on Reduced-Round SNOW 3G and SNOW 3G (+)
The stream cipher SNOW 3G designed in 2006 by ETSI/SAGE is a base algorithm for the second set of 3GPP confidentiality and integrity algorithms. In this paper we study the resynchronization mechanism of SNOW 3G and of a similar cipher SNOW 3G⊕ using multiset collision attacks. For SNOW 3G we show a simple 13-round multiset distinguisher with complexity of 2 steps. We show full key recovery chos...
