Local-Area MultiProcessor: the Scalable Coherent Interface
نویسندگان
چکیده
The economic incentive is now so compelling that users are beginning to make the transition to parallel processing, perhaps with only the expectation that they will learn how to adapt their programs to these new machines over time. Both software and hardware technology have made advances that tend to encourage these expectations. Several directions have been explored: Symmetric MultiProcessors (SMP), Massively Parallel Processors (MPP), and clusters or Networks of Workstations (NOW).

Scalable Inter-Cluster Communication Systems for Clustered Multiprocessors
As workstation clusters move away from uniprocessors in favor of multiprocessors to support the increasing computational needs of distributed applications, greater demands are placed on the communication interfaces that couple individual workstations. This paper investigates scalable, e cient, and reliable communication systems for multiprocessor clusters that use commodity local area networks ...
متن کاملThe Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) - IEEE Communications Magazine
There is rapidly increasing demand for very-high-performance networked communication for workstation clusters, distributed databases, multiprocessors, industrial data acquisition and control systems, shared access to distributed data, and so on. Higherbandwidth hardware using the traditional protocols is not sufficient. Even at 100 Mb/s, and certainly at 250 Mb/s, throughput for many applicatio...
متن کاملThe Performance of SCI Multiprocessor Rings
The Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) is an IEEE standard that deenes a hardware platform for scalable shared-memory multiprocessors. This paper contains a quantitative performance evaluation of an SCI-connected multi-processor that assesses both the communication and cache coherence subsystems. For the architecture and workload simulated, it was found that the largest eecient ring size is eigh...

Introduction As microprocessors speeds continue to improve at a very fast rate the bandwidth requirements for system level interconnections in multiprocessor systems rule out the use of shared buses even for small...
متن کاملHardware Support for Synchronization in the Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI)
The exploitation of the inherent parallelism in applications depends critically on the eeciency of the synchronization and data exchange primitives provided by the hardware. This paper discusses and analyses such primitives as they are implemented in a pending IEEE standard 1596 for communication in a shared memory multiprocessor, the Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI). The SCI synchronization p...
