0329. Beneficial effects of azithromycin combined with ceftazidime without activity against P. aeruginosa in a murine sepsis model of peritonitis by Pseudomonas aeruginosa

چکیده
Introduction Despite a proper management, the mortality of patients with severe sepsis and septic shock is very high. During sepsis, an uncontrolled cascade of inflammatory mediators is triggered, leading to tissue damage that can cause death. Macrolides, apart from their antibiotic properties, are capable of modulating inflammatory response. Macrolides inhibit the production and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-a) levels and increase anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10.

The Effect of Combination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Alginate and an Immunomodulator Protein of Garlic on Opsonophagocytosis in Murine Model
Background & Aims: Chronic pulmonary infection in patients with cystic fibrosis is predominantly due to infection by mucoid strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Mucoid P. aeruginosa is due to the production of exopolysaccharide called also alginate. Alginate in addition to interference with the clearance of lung has antiphagocytic property. Optimal killing activity of P. aeruginosa requires opson...
متن کاملDetermining Antibacterial Activity of 19 Medicinal Plant Extracts on Standard and Clinical Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Synergistic Activity of the Most Active Extract with Ceftazidime
Background: The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of P aeruginosa has become a serious concern today. This bacterium is resistant to a wide range of antimicrobial drugs. There are several ways to treat and control infections caused by MDR bacteria. One of these methods is to find active plant compounds with antimicrobial properties and antimicrobial combination of herbal plants ...
متن کاملCorelation between antibiotic resistans and biofilm formation power of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
P. aeruginosa has been mentioned as the major causative agents of nosocomial infections. Pseudomonas infections are often serious and show different resistance to treatment due to distribution of antimicrobial resistance. Meanwhile, some strains are also able to form biofilm during contamination, which help bacteria to be even more persisyant to yreatment. We examined the antibiotic resistance ...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections are difficult to treat as this organism displays a high level of intrinsic antibiotic resistance. Treatment with fluoroquinolone antibiotics leads to dramatic increases in the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), which may be associated with treatment failure. Achieving Mutant Prevention Concentration (MPC) for fluoroquinolones may kill single step resistant...

Background and Objective: Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become a frequent cause of nosocomial infections, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). Many reports have documented high rates of resistance in this species to commonly-used broad-spectrum antibiotics. The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro activity of some a...
