Outbreak of Carbapenemase-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Blood Stream Infections in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

چکیده
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a well recognized cause of community and hospital acquired neonatal infections in developing countries with case fatality rate varying from 18% to 68% (Saleem et al., 2013). Infants, particularly those with a low gestational age or a low birth weight, are at greater risk for developing nosocomial infections in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) due to their prolonged hospital stays, exposure to central venous catheters, mechanical ventilation, total parenteral nutrition, and prolonged administration of antibiotics. Mutidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae sepsis has serious implications because of the limited choices of antibiotics available, increased hospital stay and expenditure, and poor neonatal outcome (Mumbula et al., ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 5 Number 1(2016) pp. 727-733 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

Nosocomial outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella oxytoca in Austria.
To date, no outbreak of carbapenemase-producing bacteria has been reported for Austria. While outbreaks of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae have been increasingly reported, no outbreak caused by KPC-producing Klebsiella oxytoca has been described yet, to the best of our knowledge. We report an outbreak of KPC-producing K. oxytoca. In 5 months, 31 KPC-producing K...
متن کاملSuccessful eradication of a monoclonal strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae during a K. pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae outbreak in a surgical intensive care unit in Miami, Florida.
We describe the investigation and control of a Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae outbreak in a 20-bed surgical intensive care unit during the period from January 1, 2009 through January 1, 2010. Nine patients were either colonized or infected with a monoclonal strain of K. pneumoniae. The implementation of a bundle of interventions on July 2009 successfully controlled ...
متن کاملA silent outbreak due to Klebsiella pneumoniae that co-produced NDM-1 and OXA-48 carbapenemases, and infection control measures
Objective(s): Infections due to carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae are associated with high morbidity and mortality. In this study, we report a hospital outbreak due to co-producing OXA-48 and NDM-1 K. pneumoniae clone. The aim of the study is to investigate the clonal relationship of strains, risk factors of outbreak and infection control measures.<em...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of a Multidrug-Resistant Sequence Type 231 Outbreak-Associated Clone of Klebsiella pneumoniae, KP41-2015, Producing OXA-232 Carbapenemase
Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae infection is a rising public health threat due to limited therapeutic options. Here, we report the genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae sequence type 231 (ST231) strain associated with an outbreak of infections in an intensive care unit that carries a unique complement of resistance determinants.
متن کاملFirst documented outbreak of KPC-2-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in Switzerland: infection control measures and clinical management.
We report the epidemiological and clinical features of the first outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae (KPC-KP) type 2 in Switzerland. The outbreak took place in the medical intensive care unit (MICU) of our tertiary care hospital and affected three severely ill patients. After the implementation of strict infection control measures, no further patients colonis...
