Surface-plasmon-polariton–assisted dissipative backaction cooling and amplification

چکیده
We evaluate a method, based on the near-field properties of surface-plasmon polaritons, to significantly enhance the dissipative optomechanical backaction mechanism. Although the large momentum of the surface-plasmonpolariton modes leads to the enhanced sensitivity of the scattering to the mechanical displacement, the overall efficiency will not improve unless an optical antenna efficiently couples the plasmonic modes to the far field. The predicted improvements in both efficiency and bandwidth make this approach uniquely suitable for many new applications.

Subwavelength Surface Plasmon Optical Cavity—Scaling, Amplification, and Coherence
Scaling, coherence, and amplification of a subwavelength surface plasmon micropillar optical cavity have been studied using 3-D finite-difference time-domain calculations. Two experiments have also been conducted for the demonstration of the gain-assisted propagation of surface plasmon polaritons in a planar metal–semiconductor waveguide and the enhancement of the cavity-Q factor in a subwavele...

We present numerical simulations for the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a dielectric-metal-dielectric waveguide using COMSOL multiphysics software. We show that the use of an active dielectric with gain that compensates metal absorption losses enhances substantially plasmon propagation. Furthermore, the introduction of the active material induces, for a specific gain value,...

We demonstrate the plasmonic analogue of a coherent photonic effect known as coherent perfect absorption. A periodically nanopatterned metal film perfectly absorbs multiple coherent light beams coupling to a single surface plasmon mode. The perfect absorbing state can be switched to a nearly perfect scattering state by tuning the phase difference between the incident beams. We theoretically exp...

Surface plasmon–polaritions, collective electron oscillations coupled to light waves at the surface of a metal, show unique properties that are valuable in a broad range of scientific fields. However, the intrinsic propagation loss of these waves poses a fundamental problem to many potential applications. To overcome this drawback, researchers have explored the possibility of loss compensation ...
