Qcd Selection Rules in Polarized Hadron Collisions∗
نویسنده
چکیده
Plans are underway to measure spin asymmetries at large momentum transfer in hadron hadron collisions at RHIC and elsewhere. Proposals have focused on measuring quark transversity and quark and gluon helicity distributions in the nucleon. These experiments will also provide a strong and simple test of perturbative QCD, namely that ATT/ALL ≪ 1 in pp → 2 jets +X and several related processes, whereas ATT/ALL ∼ 1 in Drell-Yan production of muon pairs. The prediction tests the helicity, twist and chirality selection rules of perturbative QCD that form the foundation for the analysis of spin dependent hard processes. We estimate the ratio ATT/ALL numerically for polarized protons at RHIC. ∗This work is supported in part by funds provided by the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.) under cooperative agreement #DF-FC02-94ER40818 and #DE-FG02-92ER40702 and in part by funds provided by the National Science Foundation under grant # PHY 92-18167.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to one hadron-production in polarized pp collisions at RHIC
We calculate the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the spin-dependent cross section for single-inclusive hadron production in hadronic collisions. This process will be soon studied experimentally at RHIC, providing a tool to unveil the polarized gluon distribution ∆g. We observe a considerably improvement in the perturbative stability for both unpolarized and polarized cross sections. Th...
متن کاملSpin Asymmetries in Squark and Gluino Production at Polarized Hadron Colliders
We study the production cross sections for squarks and gluinos in collision of longitudinally polarized hadrons. The corresponding polarized partonic cross sections are computed in leading order supersymmetric QCD. The resulting asymmetries are evaluated for the polarized proton collider RHIC, as well as for hypothetical polarized options of the Tevatron and the LHC. These asymmetries turn out ...
متن کاملJet cross sections in polarized photon–hadron collisions
We present a computation of oneand two-jet cross sections in polarized photon– hadron collisions, which is accurate to next-to-leading order in QCD. Our results can be used to compute photoproduction cross sections in electron–proton scattering. To this purpose, we investigate the structure of the polarized Weizsäcker–Williams function, where we include a universal, non-logarithmic term, neglec...

By assuming that there is no significant intrinsic polarization of the gluon, we have computed the polarized quark contributions to the proton’s spin under SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking for the polarized sea and have performed a global leading-order QCD fit to obtain the spin-dependent quark distributions, which could be used as input for analyzing lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collisions.
