The Ingredients of the “subsolar” Noble Gas Component
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: On the basis of several experiments on separates of the EH5 chondrite St. Mark’s, we will argue that the “subsolar” noble gas component is a mixture of solar-like, Qand terrestrial noble gases. The subsolar noble gas component has been found, in particular, in E chondrites [1,2] but also in other meteorite classes (e.g. aubrites, CO or CH chondrites [3-5]). This component is elementally and isotopically intermediate between the common meteoritic “Q-gas” [6] and solar composition. Experiments have never established a well-defined subsolar endmember. South Oman (EH4/5) is used as reference for subsolar element ratios [1,7]. The isotopic ratios follow the elemental trend, being intermediate between Q and solar, or even roughly solar [7].

On line etching of bulk EH5 St. Mark’s – Radiogenic and subsolar noble gases
Introduction: On line etching is very useful to analyse noble gas components such as “Q” or the solar wind [1, 2]. A bulk meteorite sample, however, has never been analysed by on line etching in order to characterise its complete noble gas inventory. Experiment: The aim of this ongoing study is to analyse noble gases in a bulk sample of the EH5 chondrite St. Mark’s by on line etching (conc. HF)...
متن کاملSubsolar Noble Gases in an Acid-resistant Residue of the Eh5 Chondrite St
Introduction: Enstatite chondrites have remarkable properties: they were formed in a reducing environment, they are putatively similar to precursor material of Earth, Venus, or Mercury, have a terrestrial oxygen isotopic composition and an uncommon noble gas signature [1-5]. Trapped noble gases in Echondrites are intermediate between solar and chondritic composition and consist of two component...
متن کاملPhase Q - A carrier for subsolar noble gases
Introduction: In our series of experiments to determine the noble gases of phase Q in various classes of meteorites [1,2] we analysed the HF/HCl-resistant residue of an enstatite chondrite [3]. We have chosen the EH5 chondrite St. Mark’s because of its short cosmic-ray exposure age (~1Ma [4]) which is essential to reliably determine the He-Q and Ne-Q isotopic composition. E-chondrites might hav...
متن کاملSolar Noble Gases in Enstatite Chondrites and Implications for the Formation of the Terrestrial Planets
Introduction: In a companion abstract [1], we report evidence for tiny amounts of most likely primordial noble gases with solar-like elemental and isotopic composition admixed to Q-type primordial noble gases in an E chondrite. Here, we discuss possible implications of this finding for terrestrial planet formation. The genetic relation of the noble gases in planetary bodies to those in the Sun,...
متن کاملItqiy: II. a short story about its noble gases and oxygen isotopes
Introduction: Itqiy is a unique coarse-grained, metal-rich enstatite meteorite that was recovered from Western Sahara in July 2000 [1,2]. The dominating mineral phase is a low Ca pyroxene that partly resembles EL chondritic enstatite. The other main constituent (about 25 vol%) is kamacite, which shows EH chondritic compositional characteristics. Additionally, a few tiny intergrowths of differen...
