Baroceptor responses to acute rhythm changes.

چکیده
There is now evidence that the response of the peripheral resistance to acute changes in the stroke output of the heart is determined by baroceptor reflexes, since it has been shown in cats (Ead et al., 1952) and in man (Sharpey-Schafer, 1953) that these receptors respond to arterial pulse pressure as well as mean pressure changes. In normal man when the effective filling pressure of the heart is reduced by the Valsalva manceuvre or the erect posture, the subsequent decrease in stroke output and arterial pulse pressure is followed by peripheral vasoconstriction. It is more difficult to increase suddenly the normal stroke output and pulse pressure; but it has been shown that imposed cough transients are followed by peripheral vasodilatation (Sharpey-Schafer, 1953), which also results from the increased pulse pressure during squatting (Sharpey-Schafer, 1956). It seemed possible that spontaneous acute changes in cardiac rhythm might provide additional evidence, since pulse pressure may alter conspicuously with sudden slowing or quickening of the heart beat.

Effect of Carotid Baroceptor Stimulation upon the Forelimb Vascular Bed of the Dog.
• The importance of the baroceptor reflex system in the regulation of systemic blood pressure has long been recognized. The effector mechanism involves the appropriate manipulation, through autonomic signals, of both cardiac and blood vessel parameters. Although recent reports have emphasized the significance of changes in the postcapillary -~° as well as in the precapillary vessels under vario...
متن کاملCirculatory and Respiratory Responses to Medullary Stimulation in the Dog.
Electrical stimulation in medulla oblongata has been carried out in 36 dogs with the purpose of studying the mechanism of cardiovascular and respiratory regulation. By electrocardiographic registration, changes in heart beats were examined, and disturbances of heart rate and rhythm were suggested to be due to direct vagal nucleus stimulation or due to vagal reflex by arterial pressure change. B...

متن کاملEffects of acute arterial bleeding on renal sympathetic nerve activity in young and old anesthetized rats.
We compared the change in renal sympathetic nerve activity (RNA) during hemorrhage in young and old rats. Young (10 weeks) and old (80 weeks) male Wistar rats were anesthetized, and RNA together with arterial pressure (AP) and heart rate (HR) were measured under spontaneous respiration. Acute arterial bleeding, 1ml/100g body weight, was carried out to induce hypotension and hypovolemia. With bl...
